The games are a good daily dose of fun. I don't have a subscription and the free stuff is the perfect amount of quick mental break I need each day. My only gripe is that dragging and dropping in pips is too sensitive and it thinks I'm overlapping pieces or out of bounds when I'm only a little bit off. It can be very frustrating, especially when the tiles are small. If they can make pips easier to play, I'd say 5 stars

This app consists of the various puzzles available in the New York Times, e.g., Wordle, Spelling Bee. There are new puzzles every day, and you can go back and do the archived puzzles, too. The puzzles are a lot of fun, and they're great for keeping my brain active. My only (minor) issue is that - for obvious and valid reasons - they're very UScentric. I have to remember to use American spellings; both words and knowledge that are common in the US aren't here - and vice versa.

The games themselves I love. I'd felt like the daily play of most games that you got for free was decent, & there were no ads. That's all changing. Ads have been added (not bad, yet), & more games have been locked behind the paywall. Given that the paywall is not a one-time purchase but a subscription, that feels rotten. I would've liked to hear from them that the previous model wasn't sufficiently funding the app, as otherwise this feels like a cash grab, & I expect better from the NYT.
