Abstract
A new variety of pot chrysanthemum producing large, bronze, anemone-type flowers suitable for pot forcing.
Description
The present invention is directed to a new and distinct variety of chrysanthemum botanically classified as Dendranthema grandiflora. The varietal denomination of the new chrysanthemum is `Toffee Time`.
The female parent of the new variety is an undistributed, unnamed variety identified as P402-90 and the male parent is an undistributed, unnamed variety identified as P64-89. The new variety has been asexually reproduced by vegetative cuttings in Ventura County, Calif. and the distinguishing characteristics are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.
`Toffee Time` is pot type chrysanthemum plant variety that produces large bronze, anemone-type flowers on a vigorous plant suitable for pot forcing.
The accompanying photograph shows a typical specimen of the new variety with colors being as nearly true as possible with illustrations of this type.
The following description of the new variety is of specimens grown in a greenhouse in Ventura County, Calif. in the month of November. `Toffee Time` has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary with variations in the environment such as temperature, light intensity, day length and cultural conditions. The color designations herein are from The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart except where general terms are used.
To produce a commercial product the plants may be pinched once with center bud removed; however, `Toffee Time` can be produced as a spray pot or center disbud plant. The illustration is of a spray potted plant. It has been observed that the shelf life of `Toffee Time` is about 26 days with the response time of about 9 weeks. It may be also useful to provide one treatment of growth regulator B-9 at 2000 ppm. Useful growing conditions include night temperatures of about 64°-66° F., day temperatures of about 75°-85° F. and about 5,000-6,000 foot-candles of light.
