TO ALL WHO IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JUSTIN RYAN, of Waukegan, in the county of Lake, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Manufacture of Soap; andI do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in, the art to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a. soap compound, which is cheap and has superior detergent qualities, and which is of such a nature that it hardens in very short time, and is fit for use a few hours after it has set.
In manufacturing my soap I proceed as follows: I take two pots, and in the first pot I dissolve six and a quarter pounds of beef tallow, with three and one-eighth pounds of dark rosin. In the second pot I put twelve pounds of soft water, one and a half pounds of lime slacked to the consistency of paste, six and a half pounds. of sal soda, one and a half ounce of borax, half ounce of saltpetre. After all these ingredients have been introdueed I heat the pots hot enough to boil, and then pour the contents of the first into the second pot, and while the mass is kept at the boiling heat I add one and a half ounce of beeswax to the whole. During the process of manufacture care must be, taken not to boil the mass, but it must be kept as near to the boiling point as pos sible without boiling. By using the several ingredients in the quantities above stated, thirty-three pounds of soap are produced, and a soap is obtained which hardens very quick, and can be used almost immediately after it has set. And, furthermore, the detergent qualities of my soap are superior to that of ordinary soap, and it can be used to remove grease spots, or spots of printer's iuk without difliculty.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A soap made of the ingredients herein specified, and mixed together substantially in the manner and about in the proportion set forth.
JUSTIN RYAN.
