The present invention relates to a view-taking cinematographic apparatus, which is chiefly characterized by the fact that it comprises a single device which can be employed, at will, for the locking of the film, for view-taking in continuous operation, or for view-taking by separate pictures, owing to the manipulation of a single controlling part.
The said device comprises, in combination, two stops whereof one is pivoted and the other is both pivoted and slidable.
According to one embodiment, the said device comprises, in combination:
A plate or like member, which is keyed to the shaft operating the film,
A first member, pivoting on a stationary axle, said member comprising an appendage which, in the idle position, is situated outside of the path of the said plate,
A second member, pivoting on the preceding, and comprising an appendage, which, in the idle position, is situated in the path of the said plate,
A stationary stop, located between the two members aforesaid,
A spring or like elastic device which urges, in the idle position, the two aforesaid members against the said stop, in such way that the second member will then have its appendage situated in the path of the said plate, which latter will thus be held in place,
A stud, which is also situated between the said members and is mounted on a pivoted lever secured to a knob or like controlling part.
With this device, the said controlling knob may be moved in either direction from its mean position, in order to remove from the fixed stop, either the second member, which is thus moved aside by pivoting, and hence the said plate is entirely released, and the views can be taken in a continuous manner;or the first member aforesaid, thus bringing its appendage into the path of the said plate, and also causing the second member to disappear by a movement of translation, and in this case the mechanism provides for the taking of a single view.
In the accompanying drawing, which is given by way of example:
Fig. 1 is a general view of a device in conformity with the invention, which is shown in the stopped position.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the control device, on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 shows the control device, viewed from the outside of the motocamera.
Fig. 4 shows the device whenv in continuous operation.
Fig. 5 is a like view, in the case of operation by separate pictures.
In the embodiment herein represented, the. shaft I which operates the film and makes one revolution per picture exposed, carries a plate 2 of suitable width. The stopping device comprises a member 3 pivotally mounted on an axle 4 which is riveted to the main plate 5 of the, motocamera. The said member 3 is controlled by a milled knob 6 slidable in an arcuate slot 7 formed in the plate 5. The threaded end of the said knob serves to hold the member 3 in the de sired position.
The member 3 has a raised tip 8 at the upper part. Above the said member, a cylindrical stop is riveted to the main plate 5.
A member I0 is freely rotatable, like the member 3, on the axle 4. Its movement is interrupted in the direction of the arrow f (Fig. 1) by a stop 9. The member Ill has riveted thereto, at a certain distance from the axle 4, an axle l I, serving for the free rotation of a lever I2 whose movement in the contrary direction to that of the member Ill (i. e., in the direction of the arrow F) is also stopped by the same stop 9. A spring l3 urges the two members I 0 and 12 against their common stop 9.
The member l0 comprises an appendage of such shape that it will allow free passage to the plate 2 when the said member I!) is in con-' tact with the fixed stop 9, but willstop the said plate when this member ID is separated from the stop 9, in the position shown in Fig. 5.
On the other hand, the lever I2 has an end 14 of such shape that it will stop the said plate 2 when the said lever is in contact with the stop 9 (Fig. 1), but that it will disappear when this lever is separated from the said stop, as shown in Fig. .4, or is raised by the lifting of the axle ll, consecutive to a pivoting movement of the member l0 (Fig. 5).
In these conditions, the operation is as follows.
For the continuous operation, the control knob 6 is released and is moved to the rear according to the arrow f (Figs. 3 and 4), thus bringing with it the member 3. The raised tip 8 pushes the lever l2 and turns it about its axle ll (Fig. 4). The end M of the lever 12 thus sets free the plate 2, and the shaft I can now be rotated. It is then possible to screw down the knob 15 in this position, and the operation of the camera continues until the force of the spring of the mechanism is entirely exhausted.
In order to stop the apparatus, it is simply necessary to unscrew the knob 6 and to leave it free. By the action of the spring 13, the lever 12 pivoting on the axle H is brought back against the stop 9. The device is now in the position shown in Fig. 1, and the plate 2, which then makes contact with the end 14 of the lever !2, will abruptly stop the action of the apparatus.
For operating by one image at a time, the knob- 6 is released and driven forward according to the arrow f as shown in Figs. 3 and 5. The raised tip 8 of the member 3 will drive the member H], which thus turns about the axle The lever l2, which is actuated by the member ill by means of the axle H, willrise while slipping upon the stop 9 against which it is applied by the spring l3, and the appendage 55 of the member ID will move into the path of the plate 2 somewhat before the end it of the lever it. moves out of this path. When the end it releases the plate 2, this latter will rotate through somewhat less than a revolution, and will then make contact with the appendage of the member Hi. The device is now in the position shown in Fig. 5.
When the operator leaves hold of the knob 6, the'whole device, under the action of the spring 13, returns to the initial position shown in Fig. l. The lever it turns on its axle 6, thus bringing down the lever l2, and its end thus comes into the path of the plate 2 before the appendage l5 of the member Ill has released this plate. When the appendage i5 finally sets free the said plate 2, this latter, under the action of the spring of the camera, will come to a stop against the end H! of the lever l2, having made a complete revolution, while actuating the claws and thus the film by only a single picture.
'In this manner, each time that the knob 5 is pressed in the direction of the arrow f (Fig. 5) the mechanism of the camera will move the film forward, but only a single image is exposed.
Owing to the fact that the member l2 has both a pivoting and a sliding action, the general size, and chiefly the length, is greatly reduced.
Obviously, the said invention is not limited to the embodiment herein described and represented, which is given solely by way of example.
Having now described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent is:
1. In combination a rotatable shaft provided with a projecting part rotatable with said shaft, a supporting member provided with an arcuate slot, a stop member secured on said supporting member at a distance from said projecting part, an axle carried on said supporting member substantially between said stop member and said shaft outof the path of said projecting part, a first arresting member rotatably mounted about said axle adapted to bear on one side of said stop member and to be brought into and out of the path of said projecting part, a second arresting member pivoted on said first arresting member at a distance from said axle and adapted to bear on the other side of said stop member and to be brought into and out of the path of said projecting part, resilient means adapted to urge said first and second arresting members against said stop member, an operating member rotatably mounted about said axle between said arresting members and adapted to actuate either of said arresting members against the action of said resilient means, and a hand operated member provided with a threaded rod traversing said arcuate slot in said supporting member and engaging a tapped hole in said operating member.
2. In combination a rotatable shaft provided with a projecting part rotatable With said shaft, fixed stop means at a distance from said projecting part, a stationary axle situated out of the path of said projecting part between said shaft and said stop means, a first double-armed arresting member rotatably mounted about said axle, one of its arms bearing normally on said stop means and its other arm being normally out of the path of said projecting part and being adapted to be brought into said path, a second double-armed arresting member pivoted on said first arresting member at a distance from said axle, one of its arms bearing normally on said stop means and its other arm being normally in the path of said projecting part and being adapted to be brought out of said path, resilient means adapted to urge said first and second arresting members against said stop means, and operating means between said first and second arresting members adapted to actuate either of said arresting members against the action of said resilient means, whereby said shaft may be rotated continuously or through only one revolution or may be completely stopped.
3. In a combination according to claim 2, the further feature consisting in locking means adapted to maintain said operating means in its difierent controlling positions.
4. A combination according to claim 2, in which said resilient means consists of a spring attached at one end to said first arresting member and at the other end to said second arresting member.
5. In a cinematographic view taking apparatus in combination a rotatable shaft adapted to control the feed of a film and provided with a projecting part rotatable with said shaft, fixed stop means at a distance from said projecting part, a stationary axle situated out of the path of said projecting part between said shaft and said stop means, a first double-armed arresting member rotatably mounted about said axle, one of its arms bearing normally on said stop means and its other arm being normally out of the path of said projecting part and being adapted to be brought into said path, a second double-armed arresting member pivoted on said first arresting member at a distance from said axle, one of its arms bearing normally on said stop means and its other arm being normally in the path of said projecting part and being adapted to be brought out of said path, resilient means adapted to urge said first and second arresting members against said stop means, and operating means between said first and second arresting members adapted to actuate either of said arresting members against the action of said resilient means, whereby said shaft may be rotated continuously or through only one revolution or may be complete ly stopped.
