Description
D ZIMMER Combined Paper-Weight and Copy-Holder. No. 203,866. Patented May 21,
, INVENTOR:
ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
DAVID ZIMMER, OF ZANESVILLE, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED PAPER-WEIGHT AND COPY-HOLDER. V
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 203,866, dated May 21, 1878; application filed October 19, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID ZIMMER, of Zancsville, in the county of Muskingum and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Paper -Weight and Copy-Holder, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a transverse section on line as w in Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan view.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention consists in two rollers, one fixed and the other movable, journaled in supports formed on the end of a heavy bar or Weight, and in the combination therewith of a bar which serves as an indicator for the lines of the document held by the instrument.
The object of the invention is to furnish a device for holding documents while being copied, which will at the same time act as a weight to counterbalance the hand and arm rest while writin g the lower part of a page of a book.
In the drawing, A is a heavy bar, preferably of iron, upon the ends of which the vertically slotted roller supports B are formed. In the slots of these supports the rollers O G are journaled, the roller 0 being placed above the roller 0, with its shaft b projecting through the slots in the support B.
Upon one end of the shaft 11 a milled handwheel, 0, is placed, and to the end of the bar A springs D are secured, which bear upon the shaft 1) and force the roller 0' against the roller 0.
A bar, E, having a concavesurface fitted tothe lower roller, 0, and a concave surface which is concentric with the surface of the roll 0, but removed a small distance from it, is secured to arms F formed. on the roller-support B, and its outer side is rounded, so as to give it a thin upper edge.
The instrument has sufficient weight to hold the arm-rest employed in supporting the hand while writing the lower portion of a page, and the document to be held for copying is drawn between the rollers by turning them by means of the hand-wheel 0 until the first line appears above the bar E. When this line is copied, another line is turned up, and so on.
The position of the paper is indicated by the dotted line 0.
By combining the device with a support adapted to a printers case, it may be employed for holding printers copy.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with bar A, having shaftsprings D and rolls 0 C journaled in brackets B, of the bar E, secured to arms F of brackets, and concaved correspondingly to rolls 0 O, as and for the purpose specified.
