This invention relates to a rack designed particularly for holding and displaying pants and like garments and the present invention is an improvement over the rack P forming the subject matter of ing application Serial No. 537,720 and filed under date of May 15, 1931.

In accordance with the present invention, a rack is provided characterized by having an 1 upper arm, together with a rod cooperating with the upper arm for clamping a garment or the like therebetween together with im proved means for securing the garment against casual displacement when so clamped on the rack, and also means for effecting a positive engagement of the rod with the arm whereby to prevent casual displacement of the rod, the last named means being characterized by facility of operation.

The present invention together with its many objects and advantages will be best understood from a study of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein: Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the improved rack, the same being mounted on a suitable support, and with the rod and rack arm in cooperative clamping relation.

Figure 2 is an enlarged sectional elevational view taken substantially on the line 2-2 of Figure 1. Figure 3 is a perspective View of the clamping rod.

With reference to the drawing it will be seen that the rack is preferably formed of wire or other suitable material, and includes a bracket having angularly disposed arms including a substantially horizontal arm 5 and an inclined arm 6 connected at its upper end with the arm 5. The free ends of the arms 5 and 6 are provided with depending pintles 7 adapted to be journalled in recesses provided in parallel bars 8 forming part of a suitable support. As suggested in the 4:5 drawing, such support may consist of one.

In actual practice, it will be seen that the pants or like garment may be folded over the arm 5 of the bracket which is swingably mounted on the support in a manner hereinbefore stated. The retaining rod 11 is then swung to a position substantially parallel with the arm 5, whereby the trouser will be clamped between said arm 5 and the rod. In this connection, it will be noted that the keeper 17 being U-shaped and the entire structure being formed of wire, will be resilient, so that through the eye will cause a contraction of the part 17 and subsequent expansion thereof so that a. portion of the eye 10 will be received in the bend 17a whereby the keeper and latch member 17 will be positively engaged one with the other. i

With the rod 11 so secured in clamping position, the projection or part 19 thereof will have bearing engagement with the garment so that the latter will be retained against casual displacement. The projection 19 will be found especially useful in the event a garment other than trousers be arranged over the arm 5, and especially if such garment be dress or the like. To release tne latch 17, parts 15 an 16 are grasped in the hand, and part 15 flexed tothe curved porengagement with the eye 10 and the part 17 then readily withdrawn through the eye 10.

Eventhough I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the inunderstoodthat I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details of construction combination and arrangement of elements herein shown but claim all such parts of the invention to which I am entitled in view of the re\ uirements of the prior art and the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

1. A bracket of the class described coma rod loosely connected with the arm at a corresponding end of the arm, said arm remote from said end being provided with an eye, and said rod having a substantially U- haped part therefrom and adapted to be passed through said eye and engaged therewith forretaining said rod in clamping relation with respect to said arm.

2. A bracketof the class described comprising in combination an arm provided adjacent one end with an eye, gaged at one end with a corresponding end of said arm, said rod being provided adjacent its free end with a return bend merging into a depending U, which in turn merges into a second U extending at right angles to the first named U and arranged for passage through said eye and engageable with said eye for securing said rod and arm in clamping relation.

A bracket of the class described comprising in combination an arm, a rod loosely connected with sald arm at one end, said arm at its free end being provided with an eye, and said rod at its free end provided with a return bend merging into a substan- .ing laterally with to retain a rod loosely entially Vertical U which in turn merges into a second U extending laterally of said rod and engageable with said eye, said second U having one side thereof provided with a free portion wrapped about said return bend and a corresponding portion of said rod and extending upwardly to provide a card supporting shank.

4:; A bracket of the class described comprising in combination an arm, a rod loosely connected at one end thereof with one end of said arm, said arm remote from said one end being provided with an eye, and said rod having asubstantially U-shaped part extendtherefrom and adapted to be passed through said eye and engage theresaid rod in clamping relation with respect to said arm, said rod intermediate its ends having a portion thereof extending downwardly from the plane ofsaid rod for engagement with an article ofapparel or the like clamped between said rod and arm.
