` rl`his invention aims to provide a post which will remain securely imbedded in the ground and withstand the 'assaults of stock, and other impacts, novel means being provided for holding a wire fence securely on the post.
Itis within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the inventionV appertains.
Vit-h the above and other objects in view, which willl appear as the description proceeds, the'invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, -may be 'made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

The post 1 may be pointed at its lower end, vas shown at 17, and preferably is a met-al angle memberincluding flanges 2 and 3, the flange 3 being somewhat widen than the flange 2. In the outer edge 4 of the Iflange 3 there are transverse seats or notches 5.
There is an opening 6 in the flange 3, near to the lower end of the post, and close to the topV of the post an opening Zis formed in the flange ,l y
`A clamping jaw 8, in thepform of a rod,
extends lengthwise of the flange 3, and' across the notches 5. The jaw 8 has an offset arm 9 at its lower end, the arm terminating in finger 10arranged in approximate parallelism to the 8. .On the upper end of the jaw 8 there is a keeperl 11 located at right angles tothe jaw. The arm 9 can be engaged in the opening 6, with the finger l10 inside 5G the iange 3, the construction being such that the jaw can be swung back and forth in the direction of the arrow A in Figure 2.
The fence, of course, may be of any desired sort, and its vvfires `15 extend across the flange 3, and across thescats 5. The jaw 8 is swung up parallel to the fiange 3, as in Figure 2, and the lreeper 1l on the upper end of the jaw passes through the hole 7 in the flange 3. A nut 12, threaded on the keeper 11, engages the inner surface of the flange 3 and serves to hold the jaw 8 tightly against the outer surface of the flange 8. The keeper l1 and the nut 12 maybe referred to as a first tightening device.
A second tightening device, in the form of a hook bolt 111, is provided. The head of the hook bolt 111 goes around the jaw 8 at a'point between the ends of the jaw, as shown in Figure 3, and the shank of the hook bolt 111 passes through an opening 112 in the flange 3. A nut 14e is threaded on the shank of the hoolr bolt 111 and cooperates with the inner surface of the fiange 3, the hook belt 111 and the nut lll forming a second tightening device for drawing the jaw 8 toward the flange 3. lVhen the jaw 8 is drawn toward the flange 3, as shown, for instance, in Fig ure 3, the wires 15 of the fence are bent a little to form a shoulder 16 that enters the seat 5, the general construction being such that the wires will have practically no movement either up or down or horizontally.
By removing the nut 12, the aw 8 may be released, and by removing the nut 1d, the hook bolt 111 may be released, the wires l5 being thereby detached from the post 1 quickly and with little labor.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is l. In a device of the class described. a post provided in one extreme lateral edge with transverse wire-receiving seats, the opposite extreme lateral edge of the post being smooth, a clamp extended lengthwise of the post and across the seats, means for connect ing one end of the clamp pivotally with the post, a tightening device connecting the opposite end of the clamp with the post, and a second tightening device connecting the intermediate portion of the clamp with the pe` to cause the Clamp to' kink fence Wires into the Seatsl at points remote from the tightening device and said means.
