The invention relates to hammock frames of' a known type embodying a crown bar of inverted V-shape in transverse section and having slots near its ends and two sets of up- 5 wai'dly converging angle metal legs pivoted together and having fingers received in said slots. It is the object of the invention to provide a new and improved positioning of slots, fingers and leg pivots whereby the crown bar 10 is not excessively weakened by said slots and the leg pivots are protected against rain and consequent rust.
With the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel subject matter herein- 5 after described and claimed, description be ing accomplished by reference to the accompanying drawing.

A. crown bar 7 is shown formed of angle metal with its side flanges disposed in downwardly di'verging relation. Two sets of upwardly converging legs S and associated features of construction are employed for supporting the two ends of the bar 7 but in view of the 'Fact that the structures at opposite ends of said bar are identical, only that at one end will be speciiically explained.
Each of the legs 8 is provided with a. flange 4@ disposed in a plane transverse to the bar 7, and each of these legs embodies also a flange 10 in a plane extending longitudinally of said bar 7. The upper ends of the flanges 9 are overlapped and pivoted together at 11 and between. tlieirends, said flanges are connected by a oldabie spacer 12. Pivoted to the fianges 10, are two braces 13 whose upper ends are pivot-cd to a short vertical plate 111 which is secured to the bar 7 and provided with a hammock hook 15. In securing plate 14 to bar 7, said plate is preferably provided with I oppositely bent tongues 16 passing through slots 17 in said bar. Unique connecting means is provided between the upper eX- tremities oi the flanges 10 and the end of the bar 7.
The two downwardly diverging portions of bar 7 are each formed with a slot 18, these slots being comparatively small, being spaced inwardly from the end of bar 7, spaced upextent against rain and is consequently 7? shielded against rusting. The slots 18 receive upwardly converging lingers 21 formed integrally with the upper extremities of the flanges' 10, the upper ends of said fingers being preferably curved somewhat toward each other to prevent accidental upward knocking of the bar 7 from the legs when the frame is assembled for use.
In most instances, I prefer to provide the end portions of the bar 7 with upstanding (not shown).
Then the frame is to be folded, for instance, to permit storage thereof in compact space or shipping or moving, the hammock is l "3F disconnected from the hooks 15, the legs 8 are swung inwardly toward each other upon release of the spacers 12, the fingers 21 are withdrawn from the slots 18 and the legs are swunfr inwardly as shown in Fig. 2, the pivots of the braces 13 permitting these movements.
As excellent results are obtainable from the details disclosed, they are preferably followed. However, within the scope of the invent-ion as claimed, minor variations may be made.
In a hammock frame, a crown bar of inverted V-shape in transverse section, said bar being formed with two slots disposed one in Se studs 22 instrumental in attaching a canopy each of its downwardly diverging portions, said slots being spaced inwardly from one end of said bar, downwardl from the ridge of said bar and upwardly iom the lower edges 5 of the latter, two downwardly diverging legs each having one flange in a plane transverse to said crown bar and another flange in a. plane longitudinally of said Crown bar, the two transverse flanges of said legs being pivoted together and terminated in the'angle of said crown bar immediately under the solid ridge portion of the latter between said slot-s, where y said ridge portion protects the leg pivot against rain, the longitudinal flanges of said legs being each provided with an upstanding integral finger, the two fingers being disposed in upwardly converging relation and passing through the aforesaid slots respectively.
