DISPLAY DEVICE.

My invention relates to a new and improved display device. 7 One of the objects of my invention is to provide a display device made of cardboard and having a front and back member so united that the device can be spread out or opened so as to occupy a relatively large space. This device can also'be collapsed or folded so as to occupy a relatively small space when it is being stored or shipped.

Another object of my invention is to devise a combined display or advertisingdevice with an easel support by means of which the above mentioned results can be secured.

Other objects of my invention will be set forth in the following description and drawings, which illustrate preferred embodiments thereof, it being understood that the above general statement of the objects of my invention is intended to generally explain the same and not to limit it in any manner.

The embodiment shown in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive consists of a front panel 1 made of cardboard or any other suitable material and cut outso as to have any suitable ornamental shape. This front panel 1 can be printed or decorated in any suitable manner so as to carry any desired advertising or display matter. This front panel has side panels 2 and 3 and the front panel 1 can be made of a single sheet of paper bent or folded upon the lines4 and 5.

The rear portion ofthe device comprises a rear panel 6 having side panels 6 and 6 which are connected to the end panels 3 and 2 of their respective members respectively by any suitable means, such as by means of glue a strip of paper, ort-he like.

The rear member of the device may be made of a single sheet of paper bent or folded upon the lines 4 and 5.

The vfront member has tongues 9 and 10 connected to the end panels 2 and 3 thereof and these tongues can be caused to project through suitable slits 9 and 10 in the rear end panels 6 and 6 jrespectively'.

Hence when the device is in the extended position the end panels 6 and 6 of the rear member have an inclined position as shown in Fig. 2. As clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the frontfold lines 4 and 5 are laterally located with respect to the rear fold lines 4 and 5 so that the front fold lines 4 and 5 may be described as bein g the inner lateral fold lines, and the rear fold lines 4 and 5 play be described as being'the outer fold mes.

Hence, the device can be folded into the position shown in Fig. 3 so that the front and rear panels of the device assume a position parallel to each other and the entire device consists of a sheet of cardboard having a width which is equal to the width of the rear panel 6. It is clear that in this position the device takes up a minimum amount of space and that since all the parts of the device are folded flat against each other. that it has maximum strength.

The embodiment shown in Figs. 5 to 8 inclusive provides a device having an unmay consist of a single sheet of cardboard folded along the lines 15 and 16. The rear of the device consists of a sheet of cardboard which may be folded along the lines 15 and 16. In this embodiment the rear fold lines 15 and 16 are the outer fold lines so that in this respect the second embodiment resembles the first embodiment previously described. The rear member 11 is provided with a tongue 14 which does not project through the front of the device but may be held perpendicular to the front member of the device so as to maintain the devicein its open position.

Although I have described certain parts of the device as consisting of a single sheet of cardboard folded along certain lines, it is clear that the device could be made of separate sheets .of any suitable material connected by sheets of paper, cloth or the like so as to permit the bending of the various parts of the device into the positions previously described.

2. A device according to claim 1 in which one of said members has a spacing flap, connected thereto.

A display device comprising a front cut-out member bendable along two fold lines so as to provide a cut-out front central portion and two front end portions, a rear .member whose length is different from the length of said front member and bendable along two fold lines laterally and outwardly located with respect to the corresponding fold lines of the front member, so that the rear member is divided into a rear central 7 portion and two rear end portions, the end portions f the rear member being connected to the end portions of the front member, the front end portions having spacing flaps connected thereto and the rear end portions having slits through which said tongues can project. the end portions of said rear member being inclined to said rear membei when the device is set up, and said "front end portion being substantially parallel'to saidfront central portion when the device is set up.
