A retractile spring 20 is connected at one end to a fixed point such as a rod 2], and at its other end as at 22 to the wheel for the purpose of returning the latter to normal position, as shown in Figure 2, after each delivery operation, it being noted that a pin 23 projecting from the wheel and engaging the underside of the chute 1Q, limits backward rotation of the wheel.
At one side of wheel 18 and adjacent bracket 8. is a disk 24 having its hub secured rigidly on shaft 4 by a screw 25 or the like. A cross pin 26 is journaled in said disk and an arm 27 is rigidly secured to one end of. said pin. An arcuate arm 28 is rigidly secured to the other end of said pin, the arrangement being such that said arms shall swing together in pivotal relation to the disk and at the same time be movable bodily by rotation of the latter. A retractile spring 29 connects the free end of arm 27 with the rod 2]., and said arm is provided with a shoulder 30 for the purpose of engaging a latel'allyprojecting shoulder or pin 31 of wheel 18. to impart rotary movement to said wheel in a direction hereinafter mentioned. The arm 28 hasa laterally-projecting pin 32. and a spring 33 fitted around the hub of arm 28 and fastened at its opposite ends to disk 24: and pin 32 tends to cause said pin when the disk is rotated, to ride forward on the guide bracket 8 over the slot 11 thereof, it being noted that if a coin C occupies said slot, it will cause the pin to ride upwardly over it and there tore rotate or pivotally operate upwardly the said arms 27 and 32 as the disk is turned. Through this upward pivotal operation the shoulder 30 of arm 97 is brought into engagement with the shoulder on pin 31 of the wheel and thus causes the latter to rotate forwardly with the disk and deliver the bottom-most package at a point from which it can be extracted by the purchaser, the operation being etiected through the operation of the crank handle. When the pull on the crank handle is removed or sufiicient'ly relaxed. the springs 20 and Q9 tensioned in the previous operation,

it there is a battery of these vending 111a,- chines having a common shaft 4, the, shaft will have a notch S) in the vertical plane of each screw 10 and slotl1, and the rotation of the shaft will bring the notch or notches into registration with the coin or coins just before the delivery of the package is ellected, so that the coin or coins shall drop into a suitable receptmrle, not shown, but within the machine, it being important that the coin be dropped before the corresponding package so that one cannot operate the device and obtain the delivery of more than one package from a single coin.
From the above description, it will be apparent that I have produced a machine embodying the features of advantage set forth as desirable in the statement of the object of the invention, and which may be modified in arions particulars withoutdeparting from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. The combination with a rotary shaft, a package delivery device having a shoulder, a disk mounted to turn with the shaft, a coin chute and means cooperating with the perimeter of the shatt for intercepting and supporting a proper coin, of a slotted guide for the supported coin, a pair of arms pivoted to the disk, one having a pin to ride on the said guide and be pivotally 'aised by a coin when the same is supported by the shaft and said means, and the other a shoulder for engaging the shoulder of said delivery device when the shaft is turned; the shaft having a notch to register with the coin to permit the same to drop before the turning movement of the shaft has ended.
12. The con'ibination with a rotary shaft, :1 package delivery device having a shoulder, a disk mounted to turn with the shaft, :1 coin chute and means cooperating with the perimeter of the shaftfor intercepting and supporting a proper coin, of a slotted guide for the supported coin, a pair of arms pivoted to the disk, one having a pin to ride on the said guide and be pivotally rai ed by a coin when the same is supported by the shaft and said means, and the other a shoulder for engaging the shoulder of said delivery device when the shaft is turned; the shaft having a notch to register with the coin to permit the same to drop before the turning movement of the shaft has ended, means for returning the package delivery device to initial position after the coin is dropped, and mean to return the shaft and disk to initial position when the operative force on the shaft is removed.
3. In a device of the character described, a shaft. having an operating means. a wheel journaled on the shaft and provided with a peripheral pocket and a shoulder, a coin guide over the shaft and provided with a guide slot, a pointed screw adjustable toward and from the shaft to oo-operate with the latter in supporting a coin projected partly above the said guide, a disk rigid on the shaft, a pair of arms pivoted to the disk, one having a shoulder and the other a laterallyprojeeting arm, a spring for holding said arms depressed at their free ends so that the 10 pin of one as the shaft and disk are turned,
