Ell relates machines. t 1e invention to apply where object is to apply glue to the per in such a manner that when l1 ided around the foil cove-ring which has been pre'-.'iousl folded it will stick to the foil covering); and hold the two wrappers together.
it further object of the invention is to I rovide means whereby the strips of paper are passed. through the pasting machine at predetermined intervals.
In the accompanying drawings:
l? 1 is a side elevation of the pasting device;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof;
Fig. 3 is a diagrammatic view showing the relative position 01 the actuating earns.
The numeral 1 indicates a bracket extending horizontally from the base, and suspend.- ed therebeneath is a glue-pot 2, the latter being provided with a lug; gthrough which passes a thumb-screw 4. the threaded end of which is received. in the bracket 1, forming a means for detachably securing the ILG-POf 2 in place. Intermediate of the bracket 1 is adapted a transverse bearing 0 to support a shaft 6 upon which is keyed a pair of delivery rollers 7, 7, of such a diameter as to enter the glue-pot 2, said shaft being rotated by a pulley 8. Arniigen at the rear of the glue-pot are horizontally arranged scrapers 9-9 provided at the outer ends with open slots 10 and adj ust ablv held i place by screws 11, the inner ends thereof contacting with the rollers 77 serving as scrapers, whereby the delivery of the glue is controlled.
At the base of the bracket 1 is pivoted a shaft 12 carrying rocker-arms 13-13. and rotatably mounted at the upper ends therethe long1-- tween series.

transverse shaft ll having secured i pair of transfer-disks 15l5. numeral 16 indicates a frame having ff lugs 17 forming hearings for the svei se shaft 18 upon which are mounted rocker-arn'is 3. -1.9 adapted to support at their upper ends a transverse shaft 20. -wfitttfitfitl upon the shaft 20 area set of peripherally grooved guide or backing rollers ill--21. These rollers together with the transf r-disks 15-15 rollers are all aligned.
l ho wrappers 22 are fed downwardly thi .igh a chute s3, said chute being prorated with vertical guide-walls 2 l24c arranged outside of the rollers 2l21, the between the rollers 212l )-l.5, the roller g for the paper (.1 suppers i iassing and the transfer 2l--21 actina' the transfer rollers'15-l5 apply the glue along the vertical edges of the paper.
the transfer rollers 15-l5 oscillate backward and forward between the delivery rollers 7-T and the rollers 521 941 at pre-- determined times apply glue to the paper; and to accomplish this if preferably arrange a care 22' mounted on a stub shaft 23, the former registering}; with a earn arm 24 secured to the shaft causing the shaft 12 to be rocked each revolution of the cam,
' -1- disks 15-45 to rock forth between the rollers 77 and ransferring the glue from the rollers 't-7 and up ol g'ing itto the edges of the paper as it passes vertically downward. The stub shaft is rotated by a sprocket wheel and chain, not shown.
It is desirable to have the transfer disks l515 rotate with the delivery of the rollers 1 and. the paper when in contact with either. lhe shaft 1 18 therefore provided and the delivery carrying the backing; rollers 2l21 when the transfer disks l515 wrappers. i
:15 a means for feeding, the wrappers downwardly at the proper time I preferably arraiee intermediate of the transfer are in contact with roller a stationary roller 26 journaled in a suitable support 27 Opposite this roller are a pair of feed- rollers 28, 28, which are keyed to the shaft 20. These latter rollers are adapted to be oscillated by rocking the rocker-arms l-l9, the shaft 18 upon which these arms are mounted being provided with a cam arm 30 actuated by a cam 29 mounted on the stub-shaft 23, whereby the rollers 28-28 are oscillated forward and backward relative to the stationary roller 26.
The wrappers as they are fed to the pasting mechanism strike the stop fingers 31 31, said fingers being keyed to the transverse shaft 32 supported in the upper end of the frame 16. This shaft is likewise provided with a cam-arm 38 adapted to be actuated by a cam 34: keyed to the shaft 23 serving to retract the lingers 3131 at predetermined intervals effecting the release of the wrappers the instant the feed rollers 2823 are moved forward to feed the wrapper downwardly.
The feed rollers 28-28 and the guides 2l2l are constantly driven by means of a drive pulley 35 loosely mounted on the shaft 18, said pulley having secured thereto a gear wheel 36 which meshes with a pinion 37 keyed to the shaft 20 to which the said rollers are secured.
It will thus be seen that l have constructed a pasting machine which is compact in construction, automatic in operation. and one where the several parts are readily removable for cleaning and repair.
I claim:
1. A pasting device comprising a gluepot, delivery rollers, guide rollers, transfer rollers aligned therebetween, and means for alternately shifting said transfer rollers between the delivery and guide-rollers.
A pasting device comprising a glue-- pot, delivery rollers, guide rollers, transfer rollers aligned therebetween, means for alternately shifting said transfer rollers between the delivery and. guide rollers, means for feeding a strip between the guide and transfer rollers, and means shiftable into and out of the path of the strip for regulating its movement. 7
3. A pasting device comprising a gluepot, delivery rollers arranged above said glue-pot, guide rollers, transfer rollers aligned therebetween, means for alternately shifting said transfer rollers between the delivery and guiderollers, and means for feeding strip at intervals downwardly between the guide and transfer-rollers.
4. A pasting device comprising a base, brackets extending horizontally therefrom, a glue-pot detachably secured to said brackets, delivery rollers, guide rollers, transfer rollers aligned therebetween, and means for alternately shifting said transfer rollers be tween the delivery and guide rollers.
A pasting device comprising a base, brackets extending horizontally therefrom, a glue-pot detachably suspended beneath said brackets, delivery rollers carried by said brackets adapted to enter said glue-pot, guide rollers arranged in spaced1 relation with said delivery rollers, transfer rollers aligned between said delivery and guide rol ers, means for alternately shifting said transfer rollers between the delivery and guide rollers, means for feeding a pluralit of strips between said guide-rollers and transfer rollers, stops arranged in the path of travel of said strips, and means for shifting said stops out of the path of travel of said plurality of strips at intervals.
6. A pasting device comprising a base. brackets extending horizontally therefrom, a glue-pot detachably suspended beneath said brackets, delivery rollers carried by said brackets adapted to enter said glue pot, guide-rollers arranged in spaced rehr tion with said delivery rollers, transfer rollers aligned between said delivery and gu derollers, means for alternately shifting transfer rollers between the delivery and guide rollers, means for feeding a plurality of strips between said guide rollers and transfer rollers, stops arranged in the path of travel of said strips, feed rollers arranged between said stops, and means for shifting said stops out of the path of travel of the paper, and engaging said feed rollers with the said paper.
'7. A pasting device comprising a gluepot, delivery rollers rotatably mounted above said glue-pot, guide rollers aligned with said delivery rollers, transfer rollers mounted upon rocker arms aligned between said delivery rollers and guide rollers, means for shifting said rocker-arms whereby the transfer rollers alternately engage said delivery rollers and guide-rollers, a paper feed adapted to deliver a plurality of strips between said guide rollers a-nd transfer roll ers, stop fingers arranged in the path of travel of said plurality of strips, feed-rolh ers arranged between said stop fingers comprising a stationary and movable roller. and means fo simultaneously shifting said step lingers out of the path of travel of the plurality of strips of paper. and shifting the feed rollers into engagement wi h said plurality of strips of paper, whereby the paper is fed downwardly between the guide and transfer rollers.
In testimony whereof I atfix my signature. I
EUGENE G, KERLIN.
