LIGHTING ATTACHMENT FOR CIGARS.
Application filed May 1.3,
1924. Serial No. 713,025.
This invention relates to new and useful illustrated in Figures 2 and 3 of the draw- 55 improvements in attachments for cigars and has for its principal ObJBCt to provlde a slmple and eflicient means whereby the cigar 55 may be readily ignited by rubbing the attachment thereon over a surface.
A-further object of the invention is to provide a lighting attachment of the above mentioned character, which will obviate the,
necessity of the smoker having to carry about his person matches or any other independ ent lighting means for use in the lighting of a cigar. x
A further object of the invention is to provide a lighting attachment for cigars of the above mentioned character, which may be easily and readily placed upon the head of the cigar being adapted to form a part there; of when purchased so that the purchaser may '20 light the cigar-without the use of matches.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an attachment of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction, inexpensive, strong and durable and furthermore adapted for the purposes to -which it is designated.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent during the course of thet'ollowing description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specificationan din which like numerals designate like parts throughout the same:
liigure 1 is a side e evation of a cigarr showing my attachment associated therewith. e
Figure 2 is a front end elevation of -the attachment.
Figure 3 is a rear end elevation thereof, and
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken through the attachment. I
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designa-tes generally my attachment and; the same comprises a cap member 2 whichis adapted to fit over the head of a cigar A andis frictionally supported thereon. The closed end of the cap is provided with a series of spaced annular openings in the manner such as is shown at 3 in the drawing and these openings are preferably arranged adjacent the outer edge of the cap in the manner clearly ings.
The closed end 4 of the cap has its central portion struck outwardly as illustrated at 5 and adapted to be supported on the outer face of the struck up portion is the igniting head which may be preferably of phosphorous, and is illustrated at 6 in the drawing.
It is to be understood that the cap is formed-0f any suitable material which is strong enough to endure the pressure exerted thereon when the cigar-is lit and the cap member is further adapted to be impreg-' nated with an inflammable substance so that when the phosphorus head 6 is ignited by rubbing the same against any's'urface, the cap will immediately become ignited and the air hole 3 will assist in causing the cap to readily burn simultaneously lighting the head of the cigar so that the smoker may light his cigar without the use of matches or the usual pocket lighters now on the market.
It will thus be seen from the foregoing desorlption, that a lighting attachment for cigars has been provided which is of such a construction as to enable the same to be re adlly placed on the head of the cigar and willform a part thereof so as to enable the purchaserof the cigar to be supplied with a.
means for igniting or lighting the cigar without the aid of any independent lighting means such as matches or the like. The simplicity of my device enables the same to be manufactured at a very low cost and-will be furthereflicient and positive in carrying out the purposes for which it is designated.
While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention. it'is tobe understood that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts ,ma'y be resorted to without departing'from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is A cigar lighter comprising an attachment for the outer end of the cigar, said attachment embodying an inflammable cap, and said cap including a disc of a diameter corresponding to the diameter of the coacting end of the cigar, the central portion of said disc being pressed outwardly to provide a cup-like projection spaced from the end of i I the cigar, and;the surrounding peripheral sage of air therethrough, diametrically op-' posed attaching wings carried by said disc, there being a single pair of such wings and these being shaped to conform to the contour of the body of the cigar, and a lighting tip of igniting substance carried by and disposed on the exterior of the aforesaid out) wardly pressed cup like portion.
In testimony whereof I atfix my signature.
