This invention relates to a and stretching device.

The object of the present invention is to generally improve and simplify the construction and operation or devices of the character'described; to provide a device of this character which may be readily applied to a pair of trousers and which is particularly designed .for partially stretching the trousers and reinoving wrinkles and bagginess at the knees thereof, and further, for preserving or producing a vlongitudinal crease at the front and back of. the trousers.

The invention briefly stated consists of'a longitudinally extending bar adapted to be placedon one side. of the trousers, said' bar being provided with one pivotedstationary cl2-.nip at one end thereof and a paiikof longitudinally adjustable `and pivotally trouser holding mounted clanips adapted te engage the front and rear portionsot1 a pair of trousers,and to in'ipart a longitudinal and later-al stretch or pull thereto. Referring to the drawings in detail, and particularly to Figs. 1 and 2, A indicates an elongated bar constructed Vof any suitable material such as strap iron or the like. Three clamping ineinbers such as shown B are. einpioyed, to-wit, the upper clamping member indicated at B, the clainping nien ber shown at C, and the clamping ineinber shown at D. The clainps B, C and Dare identical in construction and the description ot" one should therefore suliice.

By referring to either Fig. l or 2, it will be noted that the clamp C is pivotally at# tached to a bar or link 10, which in turn is pivotally attachedns at 11 to a member 1Q, which isl slidably mounted on the rod A.. The c-lainp D is similarly pivotally attached to a link or rod 13, which is pimtally secured as at 1l to aineinber 15, which is also slidably inounted on the bar The ineinbers 1Q and 15 are. slidably and longitudinally adjustableon the bar and as such perinit raising' or lowering of the clninping ineinbers C and D, thereby permitting 'the inps to be applied at different points alongY the length of the trouser legs.

The ineinbers 'l2 and 15 lalso serve the function oi gripping or locking inenibers and thereby secure the clainps against longitudinal movement when an adjust/et position has been secured. The ineinbers 12 and 15 are identical in construction and the description of one should therefore sulice.

These inenibers consist of a plate, t'or instance, such as shown at 15, to which 'the Vlink 13 is pivotally secured at 14. The opposite. side or" the plate is provided with a loopeshaped ineniber 16 whicli'engages the opposite side of the bar A and the ends thereof. This loop is clearly illustrated in Fig. 5. The nienibers 12 and 15 are in reality V:nothing more or less than sliding clutches as the ends ot the loops 16 bite into the. edges ot the bar whenever a slightly tilted position assumed; thus securing them against'. longitudinal movement when a desired position is assumed.

The operation ol the device will be as follows: Hang the device by means et the hook orring S on the wall or any other suitable support. YPull the trousers longitudinally along the center creases ot the legs. nsert the'ends ol both trouser legs between the clamping plates 5 and (i of the upper clamp ll so that they project thiough the clamping plates about two inches, as shown in Fig. 2, or pull them inwardly between the clamps above the cults, it' any. The trousers should be placed so that the front thereof is disposed on the right of the operator and the center bar A will lie parallel along the side seams ot the trousers. Clamp C is then applied to the baggy'crease of the trousers at a point substantially rearwardly ot the knee portion. The clamp D is next applied over the lront crease line the trousers at a point about nine inches above the kneef as shown in Fig. 2. The clutch members l2 and l5 are then pressed or slid downwardly on the bar A until the trouser legs are slightly stretched and until the bag in the knees disappears and the trousers assume the position shown in Fig. 2.

l` his manner ot attaching the device causes the trousers to be slightly stretched longitudinally, thereby maintaining the trent and rear creases in their proper position and at the same time removing wrinkles, etc. The pull ot' the clamp D is longitudinauy ot' the trousers, while the pull of the clamp C crosswise or laterally thereof, and this pull is depended upon to draw the baggy knees out ot the trousers. The remaining portion ot` the trousers is merely permitted to hang free, and while the trousers .may be maintained in stretch as longas desired, actual experience has shown that merely hanging overnight is ordinarily sutlicient to remove all wrinkles and bagg Y appearance.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent isl. device ot the character described comprising a central bar. a clamping meniber pivotally secured to one end ot the bar. a pair ot clutch members slidably mounted on the bar and individually adjustable longitudinally of the bar. and a pair oi clamping members secured one to cach clutch member and disposed on opposite sides of the bar.
