UNITED STATES vPATENT OFFICE.
DISPLAY DEVICE.
Application filed. May 15, 1924. Serial No. 713,466.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Emu-am) H. SNYDER, a citizen the United States, and a resident of Indianapolis, county of Marion, and State of Indiana, have invented a certain new anduseful Display Device; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals refer to like parts.
This invention relates to a display device and is adapted to be associated with boxed articles. i
The chief object of the invention is to provide a display device for boxed articles which heretofore have been displayed by tilting the box within the inverted cover and at an angle thereto for exposingand displaying a layer of the articles contained by the box.
The chief feature of the invention consists in the provision of a display device for exposing to View a complete layer of the articles to be vended and which display device is adapted to form a cover for the box or carton which normally contains said vendable articles.
Another feature of the invention consists in the formation of a portion of the support or display device, whereby the same is adapted to detachably support a price tag or indicator.
The full nature of the invention will be understood from the accompanying drawings and the following description and claims:
In the drawings, Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the display device. showing the same provided with articles exposed for sale and a price tag indicating the cost thereof. Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of the display device. Fig. 3 is an end elevation with parts in section and in the plane of line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
In Figs. 1- to inclusive there is illustrated a rectangular metallic framework or base having the side walls 10, and the end walls 11. The upper edges of the sides and ends 10 and 11 are inturned as at 12, and said rectangular framework is adapted to receive or surround a box 13.
A pair of sides 14 support a bottom plate 15 parallel to the upper edge thereof and this with the ends 16 and 17 form a tray which is inclined to the supporting plane. The sides 14 are inclined and have a lower projecting edge 18. Thus, the tray and sideswhieh support the same are receivable by the rectangular base or housing and the former forms a cover for the latter. It will be readily perceived from Fig 1 nd 2 that the tray 15 is adapted to support one complete layer of articles contained by the box or carton 18 which is adapted to be co ered by the display device. The upper edge 16 is adapted to be slit at 19 and thereby provide a strap 19 which is depressed, and thus supported in spaced relation witn said edge or end 16 and from a socket which is adapted todetachably receive a support and price tag or ticket 20. It will be understood that when a sale is to be made, the box 13 is uncovered and the articles removed from the box, thereby maintaining exposed a full layer of the articles to be sold until such time as all of the articles within the box have been sold, whereuponv the articles displayed may be sold.
Although the generic idea of the invention has been hereinbefore described whereever desirable or required by law, there may be suitably associated with the tray previously described a transparent protective covering 21 to protectt-he edible articles in the tray.
The invention claimed is:
1. A display device comprising an enveloping wall adapted to surround an article containing carton, a pair of inclined side portions extending upwardly from and beyond and supported by said enveloping wall to form an obstructionless central opening having substantially the same outline and as formed by the envelop wall and pro-- viding unobstructed access '0 the entire en close-d portion formed by sa d wall, and an inclined tray detachably A side portion for covering the carton and for display purposes.
2. A device of the character deiined b claim 1 characterized by said tray including a transverse upper connection suitably formed to provide a socket adapted to detachably receive price tags and the like.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto at fixed my signature.
EDWVARD H. SNYDER.
Certificate of Correction;
It is hereby certified that in Letters Patent No. 1,578,180, granted March 23, 1926, upon the application of Edward H. Snyder, of Indianapolis, Indiana, for an improvement in Display Devices, an error appears requiring correction as follows: In the drawing, present Figures 2, 3, 4, and 5 should be canceled and Figures 2 and 3, as shown below, should be inserted therefor:
and that the said Letters Patent should be read with this correction therein that the same may conform to the record of the case in the Patent Office.
Signed and sealed this 25th day of May, A. D. 1926.
WM. A. KINNAN,
[SEAL] Acting Commissioner of Patents.
