To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALrnnnJonN, a citizen of Germany, and residing at Gera-Reuss, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Looms, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention has reference to improvements in weavers looms and relates more specifically to means for operating the rods for the shuttles.
The invention essentially comprises toothed racks mounted on the sides of the lay at the height of about the inner edge of the machine frame, which racks each cooperate with a toothed wheel or pinion fixed on a screw spindle, which latter is rotatably mounted in the machine frame and operates a slide member from which depends a curved tapering guide arm This guide arm cooperates with a second slide member to which is fixed the shuttle operating rod.
My invention will best be understood when described in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a top view of the device; Figs. 2 and 3 are side views, partly in section, of different operative positions of the device, and Fig. -4- is front view thereof.
To the lay a is secured at both sides in its operative direction a toothed rack or pinion 7), each of which pinions, meshing with its complemental wheel 0, causes the latter to 1 rotate as the lay swings to and fro. Only one such rack and pinion arrangement is shown here by way of example. The pinions 0 are fixed on a screw spindle (Z with which threads the slide member 6 with laterally extending guide arm 7'. This latter in the initial or inactive position (Fig. 1)

extends freelywith its free end into the slotted slide member 9 to the middle of which is secured the rod or stick it for the shuttle. The slide 9, driven by slide member e, which latter, as described in turn is operated by the rotation of the screw spindle d, is displaced in horizontal direction on two guide rods k and 2'.
In order to control the speed of the shuttle rod which is dependent upon that of the slide 6, the guide arm 7* is curved to a greater degree near the slide 6, whilst it tapers off toward the other, free end, so that in the initial position there will be a certain dead motion, that is to say, there will be no transmission of movement, which assures a proper introduction of the shuttle.
What I claim is In a device of the character set forth, in combination with a loom frame and a lay mounted therein for swinging reciprocation, racks fixed to the lay at the two sides thereof and extending substantially in the plane of operative movement thereof, a screw spin dle rotatably mounted. in the machine frame, toothed wheels fixed on said screw spindle, one at each end thereof, and respectively meshing with the said racks, a slide member threading on said spindle, a curved guide arm rigidly extending from said slide member and tapering down toward its free end, a second slide member, guide rods for the latter, said curved guide arm engaging in, and being guided by, said second slide member with a certain back-lash. and means for transmitting the movement of the sccon d said slide member to the shuttle.
