SZCZEPAN KUR-CZAB, F FAIRPOINT, OHIO.
COMBINED SWORD AND REVOLVER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 17, 1922.
Application filed December 1, 1921. Serial No. 519,189.
To all 157L677?) it may concern:
useful improvements in a combined sword and revolver and has particular reference to the provisionof a pistol or revolver removably secured to the inner end of a sword blade in .a manner to prevent the breaking down of the pistol or revolver barrel for reloading or the like.
The invention further embodies in a combined sword and revolver, the removal of the usual sword hilt with the inner end of the sword blade constructed for slidably and interlockingly receiving the barrel portion of a revolver or pistol with the barrel portion and handle of the revolver pivotally supported for movement relative to the sword blade and barrel.
lVith the above general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawings and in which desighating characters refer to like parts throughout the views.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a combined sword and revolver constructed in accordance with the present invention, the revolver barrel and handle being illustrated in the dotted line position for recharging the revolver,
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the same,
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view taken on line IIlIll of Figure 1 showing the interlocking connection between the sword blade and the revolver barrel,
Figure 4 is a cross. sectional view taken on line IVIV of Figure 1 showing the pivotal mounting of the revolver stock and barrel frame on the sword blade,
Figure 5 is afragmentary side elevational view of the sword blade with the removable hilt,
Figure 6 is a fragmentary side elevational view similar to Figure 5 showing the hilt and blade separated, and
panying drawing,
lf igure 7 is a fragmentary top plan view oilzhe blade and hilt shown in Figure 5.
iieferring more in detail to the accomthere is illustrated a sword bladel having a hilt 2 provided With a handguardjfi removably secured to the 511161 end thereof. The mounting of the hilt .Zupon the inner end of the blade embodies the provision of an enlargement or block 4 upon the inner end of the blade having an upwardly projecting portion 5 provided with a dovetail-shaped groove 6 opening at the upper side and extending longitudinally thereof. The extreme inner end of theblock 4 is cut away on opposite sides to provide a central tongue 7 apertured as at 8. The hilt 2 is provided with end extensions 9 apertured as at 10 for receiving the tongue '7 of the blade block 4 with the pin 11 inserted through the registering openings 8 and 10, for retaining the hilt upon the sword blade. A dovetail-shaped tongue 12 projecting from the outer end of the hilt 2 is slioably received in the dovetail-shaped groove 6 of the block 4 to provide for a rigid mounting of the hilt upon the sword blade.
lVhen it is desired to remove the hilt and attach a revolver to the block 4 of the sword blade, the pin 11 is removed and the hilt separated from the blade.
The revolver shown in Figures 1 to 4 includes a stock 18 carrying a hand guard .14 and a body portion 15 for supporting the cartridge chamber .16, the body portion 15 of the stock 12 carrying side lugs 17 for enclosing the tongue 7 to pivotally mount the revolver stock upon the block 4 of the sword blade. The barrel portion of the revolver includes a tube 18 having a depending dovetail-shaped rib 19 carried thereby for sliding and interlocking reception in the groove 6 of the block 4, the barrel being locked to the sword blade while the stock 13 carrying the cartridge chamber 15 is pivotally supported thereon.
From the above detailed description of the device, it will be readily seen that the hilt 2 of the sword blade is readily interchangeable with the revolver for mounting upon the inner end of the sword blade, permitting the use of the device alone as a. sword, or as a combined sword and revolver.
While there is herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention,
it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made in the form and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
\Vhat is claimed as new is:
1. A combined sword and revolver comprising a sword blade, a block carried by the inner end thereof and having a longitudinal dovetail-shaped groove in its upper side, an apertured tongue carried by the inner end of said block, a revolver including a barrel portion and a hinged stock, a dovetail-shaped rib carried by the barrel portion for sliding and interlocking reception in the block groove and lugs carried by the body portion of the revolver stock for pivotal mounting upon the block tongue.
2. A combined sword and revolver comprising a sword blade, a block carried by the inner end thereof and having a longitudinal dovetail-shaped groove in its upper side,
an apertured tongue carried by the inner end of said block, and an interchangeable sword hilt and revolver interlockingly associated with the blade block.
3. A combined sword and revolver comprising a sword blade, a block carried by the inner end thereof, an apertured tongue formed at the inner end of the block, said block having a longitudinal dove-tailshaped groove in its upper side, a hilt including a dovetail-shaped rod slidably and interlockingly received in the block groove, spaced lugs carried by the hilt adapted to enclose the block tongue and a pin securing the hilt lugs to the block tongue.
4. A combined sword and revolver comprising a sword blade, a block at the inner end thereof, a revolver including a barrel portion slidably and interlockingly associated with said block with the stock of the revolver pivotally mounted on the block.
In. testimony whereof I affix my signature.
