- Application filed March 28, 1922. Serial No. 547,575.
1 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Jon KoLsKY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jennings, in the county of Decatur and State of Kan- 6 sas, have invented new and useful Improve- I ments in Toy Tractors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to wheeled toys, particularly those of the mechanical type,
10 and has for its object the provision of a toy vehicle designed to be drawn along the ground or other surface and so constructed as to simulate the action of a tractor.
An important object is the provision of a device of this character which will be particularly interesting and entertaining for use by children inasmuch as a plurality of movable elements are provided which are driven or operated by the movement of the device over the ground or floor.
An additional object is the provision of a device of this character which will be simple and inexpensive in manufacture, amusing in use, durable in service and a general im- 5 provement in the art.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illus- 3 trated in the accompanying drawings in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device with parts broken away and in sections. Figure 2 is a plan view and y 35 The remaining figures are detail views.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, I have shown my device as comprising a rectangular frame including longitudinal bars connected by cross-bars 11. Journaled at the rear portion of this frame is a shaft 12 upon which are mounted ground engaging wheels 13 over which may extend guards 14: suitably secured to the frame. Also secured upon the shaft 12 at the central portion of the frame is a relatively large pulley 15 for a purpose to be described.
Secured at the rear portion of the frame is a seat 16 and located in advance of the seat is a steering wheel 17 in front of which is mounted the representation of a gasoline tank 18. The forward end of the frame is supported upon a bolster 19 beneath which is pivoted the front axle 20 which carries ground engaging wheels 21 and with which is pivotally connected a tongue 22 which serves as a handle by means of which the device may be drawn alongthe ground Secured upon the forward end of the frame is a superstructure 23 which is formed to represent'a radiator and: secured upon the intermediate portion of the frame is a superstructure 24: to resemble a motor. The numeral 25 designates a short bar which conthe motor.
J ournaled transversely of the motor structure 2 1 is a shaft 26 upon one end of which is secured a fly wheel 27 and upon the other end of which is secured a pulley 28. Secured upon the intermediate portion of the shaft 26 is a pulley 29about which is trained a belt 30 which is in turn trained about the large pulley 15 on the rear axle.
J ournaled transversely 'of the radiator structure 23 is a shaft 31 upon one end of which is mounted a fan 32 and a pulley 33. Trained about the pulley 33 is a belt 3 1 which is in turn trained about the pulley 28 so as to be driven thereby.
When the device has been constructed and assembled as above described, it will be seen of the action of a tractor so that it will be extremely pleasing to a child. Owing to the simplicity of the construction and the fewness of the parts it isapparent that there is practically nothing to get out of order and that the device should consequently have a long life and satisfactorily perform all the functions for which it is intended.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction and arrangement of parts as will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention I claim;
A toy of the character described comprising an elongated supporting frame, a rear axle journaled in said frame and carrying ground engaging Wheels, a drive pulley on said axle, a revoluble front axle carrying ground engaging Wheels and provided With a pivoted tongue, a superstructure mounted at the forward end and designed to simulate a radiator, a shaft journaled transversely of said superstructure and carryinga fan and a pulley, a superstructure mounted upon the intermediate portion of the frame and formed to represent. an engine, a counter shaft journaled transversely ofsaid engine structure and having one end carrying a fly wheel and the other carrying a pulley, a belt trained over the pulley on the fan shaft and the pulley on the counter shaft, a second pulley secured upon said counter shaft, a belt trained about said last named pulley and about the pulley on the drive shaft, fenderssecured upon the frame and extending over said first named ground engaging Wheels, an elevated structure mounted upon the frame and representing a gasoline tank, a steering Wheel structure located at the rear portion of the frame, and a seat located at.
the rear extremity of the frame.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JOE KOLSKY.
