Fastened also to the Ulshaped strip 1 is a small v'plate 18 of non-magnetic material, such as brass, which has its upper end extending above the U-strip end, and terminating'n a T-shap'ed head 19. A T-shaped slot iscutin the armature 9 at a int adjacent the head 19,' and in the wide end of which 'slot'tthe head of the T is inserted and bent into the narrowed portion, thereby aifording a limiting stop for the outward movement of the armature.
The electro-magnet 2 has a core of soft iron about which two coils of insulated wire are wound, one of'large size and relatively few turns, forming the `series coil in the char circuit, and the 'other of small size and aving a relatively large number of turns, forming a shunt coil in the generator circuit. The series coil has one end soldered on the Lplate 13 at 21, and the other end is brought out throu h the insulation late in the base and sol ered to the terminal 22.

In an electro-magnetic cut-out, the combination of a base, a substantiall U- shaped magnetic strip secured to and insulated from said base, an electromagnet positioned Within said U-shaped strip, an arma ture for said magnet substantially bridging the arms of said strip and a fiat spring connecting said armature to one of said arms for retracting the armature, a stationary contact member insulated from said strip and a co-operating contact member carried by said armature.
