The lamp 32 is carried by the lamp body 27 and has a casing 33 carried by the lamp body 27 extending thcrearound, it being noted that the casing 33 is provided with a lens 34:, which is preferably of colored glass such for instance as red, thus giving a danger signal at night. The casing 33 is provided with a lens 35 carried by one side thereof in alineinent with the lam 32, thus causing the rays of the light to 'be projected by the lens 35 to one side of the casing and upon the face of the indicating element 30 when the same is in a horizontal or operative position.
The hood 36 has side flanges 37 formedthereon and these flanges are releasably car- .ried by the flanges 7 of the front wall 5.
The hood 36 issubstantially U-shaped in cross section as shown in Fig. 3 and upon referring to Fig. 2 it will be noted that the upper end of the hood is closed adjacent the top edge of the front wall 5, thu preventing weather from beating into the interior of the casing. The lower end of the hood 36 is open and the lower end bears upon the bottom 6 of the casing, thus protecting the contents of the casing from the weather.
It will be noted that a conductor cord 38 extends through the bottom 6 and has conductors 39 connected to the solenoid 17, while branch conductors -10 are connected to the lamp 32 in any desired manner. Thus it will be seen that when the circuit is closed the lamp will be illuminated and also the solenoid 17 will be magnetized for operating the signal.
Under normal conditions, the signal will extend downwardly, although when it is desired to give a signal, the circuit may be closed to cause the solenoid to draw the core 18 thereinto. As the core 18 moves into the solenoid, the connecting link 19 will draw upon the draw link 22, thus causing the screw 25 to move the arm 26. As this armis moved, it will cause the sleeve 31 to swing the indicating element to an operative or substantially horizontal position, to give a signal. This movement on the part of the indicating element 30 will cause the element to move into the direct path of the rays of light projected from the side lens 35 of the lamp, thus causing the indicating element to be illuminated. As soon as the circuit is broken, the solenoid will be deenergized, thus allowing the weight of the indicating element 30 to draw upon the links and the arms to move the core from the interior of the solenoid to the position shown in Fig. 4. When the solenoid is energized however, it will draw the core thereinto as indicated in Fig. 2.
The foregoing description and the drawings have reference to what may be considered the preferred or approved form of my invention. It is to be understood that I may make such changes in construction and arrangement and combination of parts, materials, dimensions, et cetera, as may prove expedient and fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim asncw and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a casing whose front Wall has an arcuate slot therein, a lamp body having a bearing carried by said front wall, an indicating element having a sleeve rotatably mounted upon said bearing, and an arm extending from said sleeve; of a solenoid in said casing, a screw connected to the core thereof and extending through the slot and connected to the arm, whereby when the solenoid attracts said core, said screw and arm will bring said indicating element to a position in line with the rays of light projected from said lamp, and a hood carried upon said front wall to shield said lamp from the weather.

In a device of the class described, the combination of a casing consisting of a front wall having an arcuate slot therein, a lamp body having a bearing carried by said front wall, an indicating element having a sleeve rotatably mounted upon said bearing, an arm extending from said sleeve, a solenoid carried by said front wall, a core extending from said solenoid, a connecting link having off-set ends connected to said solenoid, a draw link connected to one of the off-set ends of said connecting link, a screw connected to the draw link and extending through the slot to be connected to the arm, whereby when the solenoids attract said core, said link and arm will bring said indicating element to an operative position in direct line with the rays of light projected
