The hinge'members 20 are secured to the bed bottom section 7 at a' point a distance ifromthe edge 22 equal'to 'the'height 0f the posts. Thisis shown best in F ig.4. As a result whenthe ibed bottom l is folded the lower portion 22 thereof will fold against the inside ofthe posts 15 and the edge 22 thereof will reach to thebottom of the cabinet. LIn foldingrthe bed, the end mattress sections will first be folded over onto the central'mattress section ll as shown in Fig. 3. Then'the bed-bottom section 7 may be folded into "its vertical'position as shown in dotted lines Fig. 4, and the end bed- bottom sections 8 and 9 are then folded in a position at right angles to the central section 7. The dimension of the end bed- bottom sections 8 and 9 is such that when the bed is folded they-extend from the front to the rear wall of the cabinet and from the top to the bottom thereof, thus providing the end walls of the cabinet. I

For supportingthe bed when it is in its unfolded or open position I propose to employ legs 23 which are hinged to the bed bottom section 7 andwhich may be swung down into vertical'position. These legs 23 are constructed so that when the bed is to befolded they may be swung into the position shown in Fig. 3, in which position they lie alongside of the front edge of the bed bottom section 7. s

' I have herein shown a construction wherein these legs 23' are connected to the bedb'ottom sections 8 and 9 so that the legs and the end bed bottom sections will be folded simultaneously. Each leg 23 is pivoted to the bed-bottom section at -24e'and it is connectedby a link 25 to a'lever 26- pivoted intermediate of its ends to the bed-bottom section 7 at 27 The lever-'26 is connected by another link 28 to the end bed-bottom section and this linkage is so proportioned thatwhen the legs are folded into the position shown in Fig. 3, the end sections 8 and Swill be folded up into a position at'right :angles to the bed-bottom section 7.

. I have provided means for concealing the hinges 21 when the bed is folded. This is desirable, because it enables the cabinet to be placed in locations in a room where it would not be possible if the gaginetwere the full length of the extended e y I Another feature of the invention lies in the fact that the bed bottom swingsin'from its closed to its open position about an axis extending longitudinally of the bed rather than transversely thereof. The advantage of this isthat the total height of the'cabinet bed and this is also an advantage. My invention therefore enables the bed to be folded up into a very compact space so that the cabinetwhich is produced when the bed Iclaim.

5. In a folding bed, in combination, a cabinet element having two supporting posts, a bed bottom element hinged to said posts and when folded forming the front of 'the cabinet, and sliding panels carried b the 20 bed bottom element for covering the hinges when the bed is folded.
