ing Pallet-Stones, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a machine for grinding or polishmg pallet and slmilar stones, the invention comprising broadly a rotatable abrading disk and an arm adapted to carry a pallet stone holder and rocking in an are parallel with the face of the said disk. v
The invention further consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter described, pointed out in the claims, and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation.
Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a plan view.
Fig. 1 is an end elevation looking toward the pallet holder.
In these drawings 1 desi ates a suitable base having a slideway 1 1 ounted on said base which may be in the form of a'table is a bracket 2 supporting a stepped pulley 8, driven by a belt diamond dust. I
A slidable block 6 works in the slideway 1 of the table 1 and has a cut out central portion through which passes a shaft 6 Mounted to rock on this shaft is a U-shaped member 7 having a'forwardly projecting arm 8 in substantial alinement with the axis of the grinding wheel 5. It will be obvious that rocking of the U-shaped member Wlll swing said arm in an are parallel with the face of said disk or wheel. The arm 8 carries a vertically adjustable block 9, held in position by a set screw 10, and this block supports a pallet stone holder 11, shdable horizontally with respect to the block 9. It
will be noted therefore that adjustment in 4 and carrying a grinding wheel 5, the flat face of which is-coated with Specification of Letters Patent. Patentd May 1'7, 1921.
Application filed February 21, 1920. Serial No. 360,326.
The pallet holder 11 may be of -various forms, depending upon the nature of the grinding operation to take place, viz. the manner and angle at'which the stones are to bepresented to the disk 5. In the drawings I have shown the form of holder in which the pallet stones are secured to its surface, as at-13 by any suitable adhesive material-and held together and in place by suitable clamps, consisting of a metal plate 14: and an angled plate 15. A set screw 12 looks the pallet holder in position.
A thread block 16 carries a feed screw 17 which advances the block 6 so that'the pallet holder employed will be moved into position to bring the stones into engagement with the disk 5.
A rocker arm 18 is secured at one end to j a pin 18 carried by the U-shaped member 7 and at the opposite end it is connected to the crank portion of a shaft 19, driven by pulley 20 and belt 21.
It will be noted that during rotation of] the disk the pallet stones are movedby the rocking of the arm 8 over the rotating surface of the disk, and the speed of rotation of the disk and the rate of vibration of the arm 8 can be independently varied.
face of the disk, the said arm when in intermediate position being substantially in the plane of the axis of the disk, a block carried by the arm and vertically adjustable, and a pallet stone holder carried by said block.
2. In a device of the kind'described, a
grinding wheel, ablock movable toward and away from the face of said wheel, an arm carried by the block and mounted on a shaft for rocking 'said arm, a block adjustably carried by' said arm, andv a pallet stone holder adjustably carried by the last mentioned block. v V
parallel with the axis of the wheel, means In testimony whereof I affix mysignature.
