INKSTAND.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 22, 1917.
Application filed November 22, 1916. Serial No. 132,777.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS K. SMITH, a
citizen of the United States of America, re-- Inkstands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to ink stands and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a stand having a counter-balanced lid capable of being shifted by the weight of a pen holder, to close an ink well and to further provide said lid with means for the reception of the holder.
Further objects of the invention are to provide an ink stand which is comparatively simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, efficient and convenient in its use, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With. the foregoing and other objects in view'the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1 is a side elevation of an inkstand in accordance with theinvention.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of Fig. 1.
Referringto the drawings in detail the ink stand comprises a frame consisting of apair of complemental side members havinga rectangular lower portion 13 and a triangular shaped upper portion 14, which is formed with a ledge 15 providing a support for the pen holder or pencil 16. The side members are connected together by coupling bars 17, 18 and a bottom 19. Mounted upon the bottom 19 is an ink well 20 whichis nor.- mally closed by a lid 21, the latter is hinged to the bars 18 and has its upper face, at the outer end thereof, provided with a seat 22 for the reception of the pen holder 23.
Connected to the bar 17 is the rear end of a curved spring 24., while the forward end of the spring is connected to a pin 25, mounted in a pair of lugs 26, carried'by the lid 21.
When the pen holder 23 is removed from the lid 21 the spring 24 will automatically open the lid and when the pen holder 23 is mounted in the seat 22 the weight of the pen holder will maintain the lid in closed position.
What I claim is I An ink well comprising a pair of side frames, a bottom member connecting the lower ends of said frames together and providing a support for an ink well, a' bar connecting said frames together intermediate the top and bottom thereof, a lid hinged to said bar and provided with a seat to receive a pen holder to maintain the lid in closed pair of spaced lugs carried by the lid, a pin connected to the lugs, and a curved spring connected at one end of said pin between said lugs and at its other end to the last mentioned bar for automatically raising the lid when the pen-holder is removed therefrom.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature MAX H. SnoLovrrz, LUELLA H. SIMON.
