RAILWAY TRACK-SCALE.
To all whom t may concern Y `Be it knownthat I, ALONZO W. EPRIGHT,
a citizen of the United States of America,
and resident of Altoona, in the county of Blair and vState of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain 4new and useful Improvement 'in Railway Track-Scales, of which the following is a true and exact description,
reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, which form a partthereof.
MyA invention relates to weighing scales, and particularly to weighing scales, of large capacity, such as railway track scales, ,and the primary object of the invention is :to prepare a simple and `easilyadjustable suspension bea-rin@ connection betweenl the platform'or bridge of the scale and the scale levers. rlhe various features Vof novelty which characterize my invention are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this specification. For a better understanding of the invention, however, and the advantages possessed by it, reference should be had to the accompanying drawings and descriptive matter in which I have illustrated and describedl a preferred embodiment of my invention.

The railway track scale, in which I have shown-my invention embodied in the drawings, comprises a rigid bridge element comprising main longitudinal beams A, cross ties B, chairs C, and track rails D carried by the chairs C. The chairs C project through the stationary platform E, which forms the roof of the scale pit.
The bridge is supported by the main scale levers O through connections which c0mprise a main bearing member H for each lever O. The main bearing member H isin the form of an inverted U 'with its base channeled to receive and be bolted to the under side of the corresponding bridge beam A. The lower ends of the legs Hof the U shaped bearing member H, are formed with slotted bearings H2 for a cross bar I. The cross bar I passes through a pair of links J, by which the cross bar and its load Specification of Letters Patent.

The member K comprises two similar side members and a' central connecting lportion K', which has a swivel bearing on the upper side of the knife edge bearing block support L. The lower edge of the latter rests upon the knife edge M, carried by the corresponding main scale lever O. The latter is provided with a knife edge bearing O resting on bearing blocks, carried by a supporting "bracket or stand I). IVith' the construction described desirable uniformity in the pressure'imposed on the knife edgebearings of each main lever O makes highly desirable a Vsimple and effective adjustment between each leg H of each main bearing member H and the corresponding end of the corresponding cross bar I, so that each end of each cross bar ma be adjusted toward and away from the bridge beam A above it. This adjustment is obtained, in accordance with the present invention, b providing a bearing in each slotted leg Hl7 of the casting H for a sliding wedge member R extending transversely to the cross bar. Each "Wedge member 'R is formed at one end with. a threaded extension R', which passes through a bracket H3 formed integrallyV with the bearing casting H. Nuts R2, screwed on the threaded eXtension R, and bearing against opposite sides of the bracket H3, form a means foradjusting the bar R lengthwise, and for securing it in any desired adjustment. Preferably, as
bottoms of these notches are inclined to correspond to the wedge taper ofthe corresponding member R. With the simple construction described, positive and accurate adjustment of lthe ends of each cross bar, relative to the corresponding main bearing member H may be easily secured, and there is nothing about this adjustment liable to et out of order or to fail under the heavy oad put upon it.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a suspension bearing for a weighing scale, the combination of a main bearing member in the'form of an inverted U, having slotted bearings in 'its legs, a cross' bar having its ends received in said slotted bearings, and a wedge me1nber-transverse to the bar, slidingly mounted in said main bearing member and interposed between thelatter and one end of fthe cross bar.
