TOY.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented May 28, 1918.
Application led October 12, 1917. Serial No. 196,222.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES G. MASUNIAN, a citizen of United States of America, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toys and has for its principal object the provision of sets of figures opposed to each other as in war or battle, thesaid figures simulating soldiers, and each set movably mounted and supported within a trench simulating portion and the respective sets operatively connected together and provided with mechanism so that the several sets of objects can be successively lowered and raised respectively in the trench simulating portions so as to visually convey the impression that the ligure objects constituting one set are to be fired upon by the figures simulating objects of the other set.
Another object of the invention vide a highly interesting and entertaining toy of this character which will be simple in construction, capable of being manufactured at a relatively low cost, and positive in its operation.
Figure 1, is a longitudinal sectional view of the toy.
Fig. 2, is a transverse section through the same on the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3, is a transverse section therethrough, on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
he toy comprises a box or suitable container 1, which is provided at its top with openings 2 and 3 simulating trenches. Journaled in the side walls of the box are revolving crank shafts 4 and 5, each having a relatively large gear wheel 6, xed thereto and arranged in mesh with a po-wer transmitting gear 7, the latter having a crank handle 8, by means of which it may be driven by hand and rotary motion set up in the crank shafts 4 and 5. The crank shafts 4 and 5 are provided with vertical guide rods 9, for a purpose to be presently is to proexplained. The said rods 9, which rise from the shaft 4, are operatively connected at 10, with the platform 11, of said box 1, and as illustrated they receive the eyes 12, of transverse rods 13, from which objects @epilee of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing' the 14, representing soldiers are supported. The lower rod 13, is connected with the crank shaft 4, by means of a strap 15, whereby said objects can be raised and lowered in the trench like opening 2, when the shaft 4, is revolved. Mounted upon the platform 11, is a horizontal rod 16, which forms a pivotal support for guns 17, held in the arms 18, of said objects 14. The mentioned arms i 18, are pivoted upon the upper rod 13, so that the guns are free to be rocked as the objects 14 rise and fall when the shaft 4 is turned.
The objects 19, which are arranged to rise from and lower into the opening 3, are constructed in a similar manner to the objects 14, and they are operatively connected together by upper transverse rod 20, and lower transverse rod 21, the latter having connection by a strap 22, to the crank shaft The arms 23, of tl e objects 19, are pivotally supported from the upper rod 20, and also pivotally connected at their outer ends at 24, to a rod 25, which is yieldingly supported from the platform 11,
From this construction, it is seen when the power transmitting gear 7, is operated motion will be imparted to the two shafts 4 and 5 and cause the objects 14 and 19 to rise from and fall into their trench simulating openings respectively, to portray such war like tactics that would suggest that the soldier like objects constituting one of the described sets are about to fire upon the enemy objects constituting the other set. The crank shafts 4 and 5, are respectively arranged so that as the objects in one of the trench like openings rise those'in the other trench like opening are in the act of being lowered.
What is claimed is:
A toy comprising, a container having openings therein, objects arranged to be raised from and lowered in said openings, crank shafts respectively connected with said objects for actuating the same,a jointed section carried by each object and mounted to tilt from the container when movement is transmitted to the object, and means for transmitting motion to said crank shafts.
In testimony whereof l aflix my signature.
