To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that T, HARRY C. HAZARD, a. citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented or discovered certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Loop Attachments, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention has for its object to provide an adjustable loop attachment for garments, by means of which a waistband, belt, or other article or part of a garment may be lengthened or shortened, and will securely remain in any desired position of adjustment until readjusted for the purpose of letting out or taking up that portion of the article or garment to which the adjustable loop attachment is secured.

To this end the adjustable loop attachment comprises a loop formed from a doubled strip of fabric, as a piece of tape or other similar fabric, in combination with a single buckle which is permanently attached,

a by stitching or otherwise, to the garment or article to be let out or taken up. The buckle is preferably formed of thin sheet metal and is constructed with two slots forming two side bars and a central bar. The loop, which consists of a doubled strip of the tape or other fabric, is permanently attached at one end, by stitching or otherwise, to the garment or article, the lower ply of the other end of the loop passing through that slot of the buckle which is nearest to the attached end of the loop, thence over the central bar of the buckle and through the other slot of the buckle so as to be brought around the bar of the buckle farthest from the attached end of the loop, to form the upper ply of the loop, and which upper ply passes over the central bar of the buckle and over the lower ply overlying the said central bar and inward through the first-named slot of the buckle. From this construction and arrangement of parts it results that when the bight of the loop is in contact with what may be termed the outer bar of the buckle, the fabric of the loop will be so clamped, when tension is placed on the loop, that said loop will be firmly held in adjusted position, but the loop may be lengthened or shortened, to let out or take up slack in the garment or other article, when the tension is relaxed, and at such time either limb or ply of the loop may be drawn out to lengthen or shorten the attachment.

In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 shows a portion of a garment with the adjustable loop attachment applied thereto the loop being shown as being somewhat shortened from its full extent for the purpose of shortening the distance between the attached end of the loop and the buckle;

Fig. 2 is a diagrammatic sectional View through the loop, garment and buckle, to show the relative arrangement of the parts when the loop is in unfastened or unclamped condition. Fig. 3 is a detail View illustrating the buckle and its manner of attachment to the garment or article.

Referring to the drawing, 12 denotes a portion of a garment, as a waist-band, and 13 denotes a buckle provided with inner and outer slots 14 and 15, forming inner and outer side bars 16 and 17 and a central bar 18. The central bar 18 is preferably bent outward or raised slightly, and the said buckle is permanently attached to a garment or article in any suitable manner. preferably by stitching passing over the central bar 18, as more clearly shown in Fig. 3.

The lower ply of the loop passes through the inner slot 14 of the buckle, thence over the central bar 18 and through the slot 15, and is then brought around the outer side bar 17 and over the central bar and the underlying ply of the loop, and then through the inner slot 14. \Vith the parts thus disposed, and with the bight portion of the loop tightened around the outer side bar 17 of the buckle, the 109p will be clamped so that the parts thereof cannot slip when tension is placed thereon, but by drawing out the loop so as to disengage the ment may be used on vests, or it may be employed for the adjustment of sleeves of shirts and other garments.

For convenience in threading or running the tape or fabric strip into the buckle the outer bars of the latter may be provided with slits, asshown. in Fig. 3. This will enable the fabric strip, formin the loop,

to be run into the buckle after t e loop has been stitched to the garment, and will also enable the loop to be detached or taken out of the buckle without detaching the loop from the fabric. The buckle may, however, if desired, be constructed with unslitted bars, as shown in Fig. 1, but with this construc-v tion the loop will have to be run or threaded into the buckle before being attached to the garment. 7

Having thus described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent: 1. An adjustable loop attachment device consisting of the combination with an article or garment, of a 100 consisting of a doubled strip of fabric t e two ends of which are permanently attached at the same point to the article or garment, and a buckle I permanently attached to the article or garment and provided with two slots forming inner andouter side bars and a central bar,

a portion of the said loop being passed through one of the said slots, over the said central bar and thence through the other one of the said slots and around the said outer side bar, and thence again over the said central bar, and then aga1n through the firstnamed or inner slot; whereby the said loop may be permanently held in an desired poattachment device I ment and provided with two slots forming inner and outer side bars and 'a raised or outwardly bent central bar, a portion of the said loop being passed through one of the said slots, over the said central bar and thence through the other one of the said slots and around the said outer side bar, and thence again over the said central bar, and

-then agam through the first-named or inner slot; whereby the said loop may be permanently held in any desired position of adjustment and the loop may be lengthened or shortened to let out or take up the article or garment to which the device is secured.
