Abstract

908,816. Reciprocating pumps. C. A. V. Ltd. April 6, 1961 [April 8, 1960], No. 12640/60. Class 102(1). In a liquid fuel pump comprising a pumping chamber 3 separated from an actuating chamber 2 by a pair of spaced diaphragms 12, 13, a spacing ring 15 of porous material, e.g. felt, fabric or sintered metal, surrounds the space between the diaphragms as that leakage through them is indicated. In the embodiment shown, a piston 6 is reciprocated by a cam 9, a passage 17 connecting the space between the piston and diaphragm 12 to the pump inlet to prevent pressure build-up. Alternatively, piston 6 and passage 17 may be omitted and the pumping effected by diaphragm 12, stem 7 then being extended to engage a bore in the pump housing 1.
