Abstract
819,055. Percussive tools. PEUGEOT & CIE. July 9, 1957 [July 13, 1956], No. 21686/57. Class 124. An electrically oper ted hammer has a driving member, a pistor constituting a striker and a hydraulic trans mission interconnecting the driving member anc the piston, the hydraulic transmission consisting in a hydraulic motior converter arranged ir the body of the hammer As shown, an electric motor 60 drives, througl a gear train, an eccentric comprising a shaft 54 having an offset journal mounted in a block 51 slidable in a recess 5( formed in a head 44 screwed onto a rod 38 and attached to a rubber diaphragm 18 held between a plate 19 and a body 1. The body 1 is bored to form three cylinders 6, 7 and 8 of decreasing diameter and is attached at its other end to a tube 2 having a diameter less than that of the'bore 8. A piston 23 is held in a position of rest in the bore 12 of the tube 2 by a tension spring 28 and a compression spring 35, the latter abutting a washer 34 which acts as a stop for the piston. The chamber formed by the bores 6, 7, and 8 is filled with a hydraulic medium, e.g. oil, except for a small space 27 which contains air. Rotation of the motor 60 causes reciprocation of the diaphragm which is converted by the hydraulic medium into movement of the piston causing it to strike the end 16 of a steel. The air in the space 27 is rapidly dispersed through the oil and acts to prevent vibration at a handle 69 mounted above the motor.
