801,936. Cutting extruded clay columns. RUZICKA, V. Sept. 13, 1955 [Sept. 17, 1954], No. 26181/55. Class 87(2). An extruded stream of ceramic material 1 is received by rollers 19 mounted on a wheeled carriage, and when a desired length of material has been received a measuring cylinder driven by the stream causes a switch 26 to be operated which actuates electrically controlled brakes on the rollers and releases electrically controlled brakes on the wheels of the carriage, so that the carriage then moves with the stream. A cutting wire 17 which can be adjustably rotated about a shaft 18 mounted to move with the carriage is then moved across the stream to cut the material. When the carriage reaches an end position, the brakes of the rollers are released and the carriage returned to its original position. The length of the cut part can be adjusted by adjusting the length of the chain 13. The material is supported near the cut by adjustable rollers 22.
