Abstract
A Rim Seal has an adhesive side 3 that bonds to the rim forming a seal against compounds such as water and dirt. A valve is allowed to pass through the center of the seal and is thus sealed buy a tollerance fit between the seal and the valve. The Rim Seal may be removed at any time.
Description
2340580 Rim Seal This invention relates to the seal of the space between
the hole in a rim of a wheel and the valve that protrudes through this hole.
At the point on a wheel rim, the hole which enables the inflation of the tyre via the valve may be bigger than the valve itself. During the use of the wheel the space created between the difference in size of the hole in the rim and the valve can cause foreign bodies such as dirt and water to enter the inside of a tyre. These foreign bodies can then come in contact with the components of a wheel such as the inner tube, tyre carcass and rim, whereby if not removed can cause accelerated wear and deterioration. This can, in cases such as competition use of a wheel, cause a disadvantage due to an increase in weight of the wheel due to the foreign bodies.
An object of this invention is to form a seal at the point on the rim where the valve protrudes and the hole is present, therefore, eliminating the possibility of foreign bodies entering the inside of the tyre.
Accordingly this invention provides a method to seal the inside of a tyre while on a rim, therefore, protecting the inside of a tyre, the inner tube and other components of the wheel that may be afTected or cause a related problem due to the entrance of foreign bodies such as water.
The invention is preferably made of plastic or rubber with an adhesive surface on one side which can be adhered to the internal or external surface of a rim. It could, however, be made from other materials and use a different method to attach itself to the wheel.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 shows a side view of the whole seal.
As shown in fig 1 the seal is of disc shape and formed from a high density foam, 1. A hole is produced within the disc to aflow a tolerance fit to the protruding valve, 2.
One of the surfaces of the disc is adhesive which temporarily adheres to the surface of the riR3.
The seal is manually pushed over the protruding valve causing a tolerance fit and the seal is temporarily adhered to the rim.

Claims (5)
1 A sealing device to seal the hole in a rim of a wheelhere a hole in the rim is present.
2. A sealing device as claimed in claim 1 where the device is able to locate on either side of the hole in a rim.
3. A sealing device as claimed in any preceding claim whereby the hole present in a rim is sealed by any device.
4. A sealing device as claimed in any preceding claim which is made from metal, plastics, ceramic, rubber or wood or from a combinadon of these materials.
5. A sealing device substantially as herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
