Abstract

The core consists of several laminated core parts assembled with surfaces thereof juxtaposed. The magnetic resistance across each two juxtaposed surfaces varies over their areas, being greatest in the regions traversed by the shortest lines of magnetic force. The product of the lengths of all the lines of force and the corresponding magnetic resistances is substantially uniform. The varying magnetic resistance is obtained either by mutually inclining the juxtaposed surfaces or by locating between them a non-magnetic spacer the magnetic resistance of which varies from one region thereof to another. The core may include a laminated pole piece formed of sheet metal stampings and one or more laminated core segments cut from a wound metal strip, the pole piece having two oppositely facing abutment surfaces each juxtaposed with respect to an abutment surface on a cut end of the segment or of one of the segments. <IMAGE>
