Abstract
In a flat-iron having two heating elements 3 and 4 individually controlled by zero-voltage switches 6 and 7, two temperature sensors 18 and 19 are associated one with each element, and the respective switch 6 or 7 is controlled dependent upon the sensed temperature. A temperature error signal is transferred by each of two gates (12 or 13) from a respective comparator (24 or 25) to the relevant switch (6 or 7), each comparator comparing the voltage drop across the relevant resistance (18 or 19) with a reference voltage. The gates 12 and 13 are enabled only when a signal is received from a common pulse generator 38. An acceleration-sensing switch 40 detects whether or not the iron is moving and inhibits switch-on if it is not. <IMAGE>
