Abstract

Apparatus for dispensing measured quantities of marking powder, e.g. hydrated lime, onto the ground comprises a container (1) having an outlet (2) at its lower end and means (24) for mounting it on a vehicle or other support, a plate (7) detachably mounted above the bottom of the container for masking the container outlet, a measuring wheel (13) located between the plate (7) and the bottom of the container and mounted on a central shaft (11) passing through the bottom of the container and carrying a ratchet wheel (14) below the container, said measuring wheel having a plurality of arms equally spaced apart at a distance approximately equal to the width of the container outlet, and the ratchet wheel being operable by a pawl (17) on a manually operable lever (19) to rotate the wheel (13) through a distance equal to the spacing of its arms (33) and thus sweep a measured quantity of powder from the bottom of the container through the outlet (2) and a guide tube (27, 28) onto the ground. <IMAGE>
