Abstract

A glass insulating unit comprises at least two glass panes and spacers 3 in the form of hollow elongate members having mitred ends and provided on their surfaces facing the panes with an adhesive 4. In order to make a hermetically sealed joint between the spacers and the panes, a corner member 1 having two perpendicular arms is inserted into the ends of the spacers at each corner of the unit. Each corner member is formed at least partly of a pliable heat meltable material 2 which is of external cross-sectional area larger than the internal cross-sectional area of the spacers. During insertion, this material is pressed out and fills up any clearances at the corner. The spacers and corner members are then heated and the resulting expansion of the spacers causes their mitred ends to be pressed together so that the material adheres to the ends. <IMAGE>
