Abstract

1407031 Antibacterial polyolefin articles IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 10 May 1973 [16 May 1972] 22850/72 Heading C3P [Also in Division A5] Articles having antibacterial properties comprise a polyolefin and 1,6-di-(chlorophenyldiguanido) hexane (chlorhexidine) or a salt thereof. The polyolefin may be polyethylene, polypropylene, polymethylpentene, polybutadiene or polyisoprene. The chlorhexidine may be taken up from solution by contacting therewith polyolefin articles having a high surface to volume ratio, e.g. fibres, fabrics, open cell foams and films. An example describes a fabric of polyethylene fibrils pile attached to a non-woven sheet of polypropylene fibres with nylon cores rendered antibacterial with chlorhexidine digluconate.
