Abstract

1388000 Capacitors. H WALKER 25 Jan 1973 [4 Dec 1971] 56391/71 Heading H1M Wound capacitor 1 (Fig. 1), has electrode connections 5, 6 passing through one end of casing 4 for engagement with clips 8, 9 of a pair of input leads, the capacitor being fixed at the other end to end cap 3 displaceable within the casing in response to rise in internal pressure, the displacement being harnessed to separate connections 5, 6 from clips 8, 9. Optionally the displacement may uncover vent hole 12. Alternatively (Fig. 2), capacitor 1 is fixed in relation to casing 4 and one electrode is connected to clip 9 by a conductor 21 extending from the opposite end of the capacitor roll, thence by spring link 23 and conductors 22 and 6. Displacement of closure member 24 dislodges spring link 23 and optionally pushes off end cap 25 to provide visual indication. End cap 25 may be transparent. Member 24 may alternatively be a flexible diaphragm or bellows. As shown, clips 8, 9 are enclosed in insulating sleeves 11, 10.
