Abstract

1375750 Cleaning seats of sanitary closets C W SCHNYDER 29 Dec 1972 [27 Nov 1972] 60098/72 Heading E1C Apparatus for cleaning the seating surface of a sanitary closet seat comprises a pair of rails which guide the seat for movement from a horizontal position resting on the closet bowl to a vertical position within a cleaning box adjacent the bowl, the seat there engaging a switch or other member adapted to trigger a supply of cleaning liquid to a spraying device for spraying the liquid on to the seating surface, after which the seating surface is wiped or/and dried by heat or hot air. In one embodiment, Figs. 2 and 7, the seat 11 has at each side two guide pins engaging respective bifurcations of a rail 18, the pair of rails 18 being disposed within a cleaning box 15 having a hinged cover 13 which is lifted either manually or automatically to allow the seat 11 to be lifted at its forward end by a handle 12 so that it slides, under its own weight or by spring action, into the box 15. The cover 13 is afterwards re-closed and may serve to retain the seat in position. A switch is then closed either manually or by the seat to cause supply of cleaning liquid to a spray ring (27, Fig. 6, not shown) or to a set of radial spray arms (28, Fig. 7, not shown) which are rotated by the reaction of the spray jets or by a turbine 30 so that the seat may be scrubbed by bristles 29 or/and wiped, after which a heater may be energised to dry the seat 11. The arrangements for washing and drying the seat may be similar in each of the further embodiments of Figs. 9 and 14. In the former embodiment, the seat 31 is carried by arms 33 at one side which are pivoted upwardly about ball-shaped ends 34 upon rotation of a horizontal shaft 35 by gear wheel 38 and a gear sector (46, Fig. 13, not shown) which is rotated by operation of a hydraulic ram (43) fed with flushing water. When the arms 33 have pivoted to a vertical position they are able to be received in tubular guide rails 36 in which the ball-shaped ends are located, so that the seat 31 drops into cleaning box 37. In the embodiment of Fig. 14, a pair of arms 56 secured to a shaft 55 supports the front of the seat while guide pins on the rear of the seat engage a pair of guide rails 60. Shaft 55 is driven by movement to closed position of a cover 51 through the gearing shown to lift the seat 58 and deposit it, via a spring-loaded flap 61, into cleaning box 62.
