Abstract
1370344 Chlorinated hydrocarbons FMC CORP 24 Sept 1971 [28 Sept 1970] 44604/71 Heading C2C Trichloroethylene and perchloroethylene are prepared by continuously feeding ethylene, chlorine and oxygen to a reactor containing a fluidized bed of Deacon-type catalyst and having above the free upper surface of the bed a disengaging space, the mol. ratio of oxygen to ethylene being in the range of 1À05 : 1 to 1À2 : 1 and the atomic ratio of Cl : C in the feed being 1À45 : 1 to 1À85 : 1, the temperature of the bed being 415-435‹ C., the residence time in said reactor being at least 40 seonds and in the bed at least 30 seconds (based on the actual fluidized bed volume) or at least 30 seconds in the reactor and at least 20 seconds in the bed (based on the bed volume at minimum fluidization).
