Abstract
1360351 Corrugating adhesive composition; diacetone acrylamide / formaldehyde condensates NATIONAL STARCH & CHEMICAL CORP 3 Jan 1972 [11 Jan 1971] 170/72 Headings C3U and C3R [Also in Division B5] An alkaline corrugating adhesive composition comprises a blend of (a) from 10-40% based on total weight of adhesive, of a starch mix wherein a minor portion by weight of the starch mix acting as a carrier is selected from a gelatinized starch and a water-dispersible, high viscosity polymeric material, and the remainder of the starch mix is ungelatinized starch; (b) an alkali in a concentration of from 0À3 to 4% based on the total weight of the statch mix; (c) a cross-linking agent comprising a diacetone acrylamide-formaldehyde condensate in a concentration of from 0À3 to 10% based on the total starch; and (d) water in an amount of 54-89% based on total adhesive. The alkali is preferably sodium hydroxide. Borax may be incorporated. Diacetone acrylamide-formaldehyde condensate is obtained by reacting diacetone acrylamide with paraformaldehyde at 40‹ C. and pH 10À8-11À5.
