Abstract

1359161 Liquid level indicators JAMES A JOBLING & CO Ltd and D OBERSBY 4 Feb 1972 [10 Feb 1971 8 July 1971] 4391/71 and 32198/71 Heading G1H In a method of detecting the level of a liquid in a vessel 11 a pencil beam of infrared light is directed from a source 30 across tubes 13 or 14 in devices D1, D2 towards photo-diodes 32 and depending on whether liquid is present or not in the devices an electrical circuit either opens or closes a valve 24, to admit or stop liquid flow to the vessel 11, or open or close a valve 25 to permit or stop liquid flow to a calibration vessel 23. In one arrangement, Figs. 5-9, (not shown), the method is used in conjunction with a device for marking the vessel to be calibrated. In a further embodiment, Figs. 10-13, (not shown), the method is used in conjuction with a moving belt to automatically calibrate vessels.
