Abstract
1353012 Transformers HIRST ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd 10 May 1971 [10 Feb 1970] 6441/70 Heading H1T An electrical regulator comprises an output winding L1 connected in series with a second winding L2 across an input 2, and a stationary auxiliary winding L4, at least a part of which may be short-circuited to adjust the impedances of windings L1 and L2 selectively. The auxiliary winding L4, Fig. 2, has a series of tappings, any adjacent pair of which may be shorted by a slidable bridge 6. Alternatively semiconductor switches may be used to selectively short-circuit portions of the auxiliary winding L6 as shown in Fig. 5 in which bidirectional triode thyristors B1 to B6 constitute the switches and a bridge circuit C is provided to allow smooth variation of the short circuit current flowing in the short-circuited portion of winding L6, and hence smooth variation of the output at terminals 4. Alternatively this smooth variation may be produced by the inclusion of a network of resistors R, Fig. 6, each of which may itself be short-circuited by firing a bidirectional triode thyristor B. The thyristors may be phase controlled. Thyristor switched sections may be added directly to the windings L1,L2.
