Abstract

1350384 Polyurethane coating compositions IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 15 July 1971 [10 Aug 1970] 38364/70 Heading C3R [Also in Division B2] Compositions comprise an organic polyisocyanate, a tertiary amine containing a plurality of aliphatic hydroxyl groups and a filler, at least 50% by weight of the filler consisting of at least one synthetic polymer. Numerous suitable organic polyisocyanates are listed such as hexamethylene diisocyanate, tolylene - 2,4 - di - isocyanate, chlorophenylene- 2,4-diisocyanate and methylcyclohexylene diisocyanate, as well as uretedione dimers and isooyanurate polymers. Preferred are isocyanate-blended prepolymers obtained by the reaction of a polyisocyanate with a hydroxylterminated polyester, polyester-amide or polyether. Numerous suitable materials are given. Many suitable amines are listed, e.g. oxyethylated, oxypropylated and oxybutylated triethanolamines. The filler may be a thermoplastic or thermosetting polymer such as nylon, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl chloride polvinyl acetate copolymers, urea-formaldehyde polymers and cellulose acetate although others are specified. The polymers may be unpigmented or mass pigmented and may be incorporated into the composition in the form of powders, pieces, turnings, fibres, flakes, tape or film having a maximum dimension of half an inch. Additional fillers such as talc, china clay, barytes, sands and other finely-divided silicas, asbestine, mica, zinc stearate and slate powder may also be present.
