Abstract

1,227,018. Stud and socket fastenings. CRANE FRUEHAUF TRAILERS Ltd. 26 July, 1968 [17 Aug., 1967], No. 35740/68. Heading E2B. A coupler for two members comprises a rotatable element having shaft portions within a housing and supported eccentrically by bearing bosses 18 extending from the sides of the housing, the bosses being shaped peripherally for insertion in a correspondingly shaped aperture in each member, a spring urged rod 26 extending through a slot 13 in the housing and element for rotating the element and a head 36, 37 at the end of each shaft portion having the peripheral shape of the adjacent bearing boss and being offset angularly relatively to one another. In one position of the rod 26, one head is aligned with the corresponding boss and both the head and the boss are insertable into an aperture in one member. The rod is then moved to engage a collar 35 on the rod in an aperture 14 of'the slot 13 in which position of the element the other head is aligned with the corresponding boss and both are insertable into an aperture in the other member. The rod is then rotated to engage in an aperture 15 when both heads are positioned to retain the members coupled together. When the periphery of the apertures in the members is otherwise than circular the periphery of the boss and of the head is correspondingly shaped. A plate 39 on the housing prevents the container moving with respect to the coupler.
