Abstract

1281069 Regulating IC engine fuel injection; heating fuel DAIMLER-BENZ A G 10 Dec 1969 [12 Dec 1968] 60338/69 Heading F1B The weight of fuel determined volumetrically by an injection pump 2 which is supplied to the engine 1 is regulated by influencing the temperature and thus the specific gravity of the injected fuel. The fuel supplied by a pump 3 may be supplied to the pump 2 via a heat exchanger 7 through which the combustion air from a filter 11 is directed. Air which has passed through the engine cooling water radiator (16), Fig. 3 (not shown), may be directed through the heat exchanger (15). The flow of engine cooling water through the heat exchanger (19), Fig. 4 (not shown), may be controlled by a valve (24), which determines the distribution of cooling water between the exchanger and a by-pass 25, and which is operated by a temperature sensor (22) upstream of the radiator (20). The distribution of fuel between a flowpath through cooling water exchanger (28), Fig. 5 (not shown), and a by-pass (35) may be controlled by an air temperature sensor downstream of the radiator, The valve (24 or 32) controlled in accordance with air temperature may vary the cooling water or fuel-flow proportions through the exchanger or by-pass or direct the cooling water or fuel to the exchanger or by-pass.
