Abstract
1,248,710. Continuous casting. VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY I KONSTRUKTORSKO - TEKHNOLOGICHESKY INSTITUT TRUBNOI PROMYSHLENNOSTI. 7 July, 1970, No. 32925/70. Heading B3F. [Also in Division F4] A tundish for use in the continuous or semicontinuous casting of tubes &c. comprises an annular dish 1 formed with peripheral passages 2 for the discharge of metal into a mould and divided diametrically at 3, the two halves being united by U-shaped clamps 7 engaging openings 6 in lugs 5. The passages 2 are defined between the wall 4 and spaced removable panels 9 sliding in projections 8, the wall 4 being recessed at 4a to allow metal to enter said passages 2. In a modification (Figs. 5 and 6), the passages 2 are formed on the inner annular wall and the couplings may comprise bolts (11) engaging holes in the lugs 5 or said lugs may be tapered inwardly (12) with clamps (13) disposed over them. The split line 3 runs on a raised portion 10 of the dish so that residual metal does not collect and solidify on said line. The dish may be rotated on the mould.
