Abstract
1,241,764. Rudders. HYDROCONIC Ltd. 28 Jan., 1970 [26 Feb., 1969], No. 10296/69. Heading B7V. In a marine propulsion and steering system, e.g. for a tug, comprising a plurality of shutter rudders 12, 13, 15, 16 at the entry and exit of a propulsion nozzle 11 surrounding a propeller 20, with the steering in its straight ahead setting, the leading edges of the entry rudders spaced from the nozzle axis are toed outwards, e.g. 1 to 7 degrees, and the trailing edges of the exit rudders spaced from the nozzle axis are toed outwards, e.g. 1 to 3 degrees. The entry rudders 12 spaced furthest from the nozzle axis are toed out more, e.g. 3 to 7 degrees, than the inner rudders 13, e.g. 1 to 3 degrees. The toeing out of the rudders is such that they substantially conform with the entry and exit flow lines of the nozzle.
