Abstract
1,168,791. Mine roof supports. K. M. GROETSCHEL. 21 Nov., 1966 [21 Aug., 1965], No. 35966/65. Heading E1P. The superstructure of a selfadvancing mine roof support has a movable central beam 23 supported for pivotal movement on a prop 14 and is adapted for use on a laterally sloping face by having a laterallyyielding or -adjustable forward guide 38 supported by a telescopic strut 39, or hydraulic ram. The strut is preferably provided with a laminated leaf spring 44 on one or each side, arranged to bias the strut laterally, the biassing force being adjustable by a screw 45. The guide 38 is tied back to the prop 16 by a cable 47 or rod. Guides may also be provided at the rear of the beam 23 in the form either of spring- or hydraulicallyloaded laterally directed plungers 49 (Figs. 3, 5, not shown), or a single rigid laterally directed plunger which is adjustable transversely of the beam (Fig. 4, not shown). The inner portion 15 of the prop 14 is horizontally adjustable with respect to the portion 16 by means of eccentric collars 15a and 15c (Fig. 9, not shown).
