Abstract

1,058,134. Feeding sheets. H. T. BACK. HOUSE. April 27, 1964 [April 26, 1963], No. 16593/63. Heading B6B. Sheet forwarding apparatus for feeding individual sheets from the top of a pile substantially in the plane of the sheet comprises two or more spaced suction grippers 135 carried by swinging arms 121, the length of at least one arm 121 being adjustable so that the length of travel of one gripper may be varied relative to that of the other gripper. The suction grippers 135 are spaced apart on a cross-bar 35. The latter is supported at each end by a ball joint 200 at the lower end of an arm 121. One arm comprises telescopic members 202, 203 spring- urged apart. Member 203 is prevented from rotational movement in the sleeve 202 by lugs 206 thereon riding in slots 207 in the sleeve. Rotation of a handle 220 over a graduated scale 221 is transmitted via a rod 219, gears 218, and members 212-216, to a member 210 screwed into the member 203, thereby varying the length of the arm. The other arm is fixed in length. Said arm and the sleeve 202 are secured to opposite ends of a shaft 122, Fig. 3. Shaft 122 is oscillated by means of a reciprocating rod 126 through a pivoted bell-crank 232 and an arm 230 fixed to the shaft. The bell-crank 232 may be rocked by an adjustable nut 233 to vary the radial distance from the centre of the shaft to the rod and hence the distance moved by the cross-bar 35. The suction grippers are supported from the cross-bar or arms 136. Said arms are free to pivot upwardly a limited amount from the position shown in Fig. 2.
