Abstract

1,048,003. Protective systems. MORPHYRICHARDS Ltd. June 4, 1963 [June 1, 1962; July 7, 1962; Aug. 30, 1962], Nos. 21128/62, 26154/62 and 33285/62. Heading H2K. In a circuit comprising an energy or temperature control unit for controlling the current through a heating element, e.g. that of an electric blanket, an electromagnetic protective device is provided to disconnect the element in response to a reduction or interruption of the current not due to operation of the control unit. In one arrangement the device is an electromagnetio relay with opposing windings connected one in series and the other in shunt with the element, so that should the current through the element and series winding be reduced due to a fault the shunt winding opens the relay contacts which are latched open. Interruption or reduction of the current due to the operation of the control unit affects both windings so that the relay is not operated. In other arrangements the device is closed manually and held closed by an electromagnet having a winding which acts as a holding winding when the control unit is operative and one or two further windings to effect the release of the device when the control unit is inoperative and the load current falls.
