Extendable sun visor for motor vehicles.

Sun visors that are released from their locking mechanism and swiveled outwards by 90° to protect against the sun shining from the side are often too short to cover the entire width of the side window. The sun often shines through the remaining gap between the sun visor and the window frame, meaning that the driver and front passenger are still blinded by the sun.

This problem is solved with the features listed in the protection claim.

The invention submitted is a sun visor that can be extended across the entire width of the side window using the telescopic principle after being released from its locking mechanism and swung out to the side. The extension either sits on the sun visor as a sliding attachment or is inserted inside it, whereby in the latter case the part to be extended protrudes slightly from the sun visor or is pulled out of it thanks to a recess in the sun visor. In the variant with the sliding attachment that sits on top, a vertical holding strip for city maps, parking discs or the like can be attached. For all design variants, further recesses on the extension do not affect the additional functions integrated into the sun visor, such as lights, mirrors or holding devices. Recesses for guide pins, stoppers or locking devices ensure that the extension cannot easily leave the sun visor.

In a further embodiment, the invention consists only of the extension described above, which is attached to the sun visor as a sliding attachment for retrofitting old models.

Embodiments of the invention are explained with reference to Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Figure 1 uses the driver's sun visor as an example to illustrate the functionality of the extension (10), which sits as a sliding attachment on the sun visor (11) and is adjusted to the desired length by hand after the visor is folded out. Recesses, e.g. on the make-up mirror or on the hinge (12), ensure that additional functions integrated into the sun visor are retained. Another recess on the upper edge of the extension serves as a guide channel (13) for a stopper (14) located on the upper edge of the sun visor, which prevents the

Figure 2 uses the passenger sun visor as an example to illustrate the design variant in which the extension (10) sits inside the sun visor (11) and protrudes a little at the side so that it can be easily pulled out with the fingers. Stoppers on the upper and lower edges of the extension (12) prevent the sun visor and extension from accidentally separating. The recess at the rear end of the extension (13) creates space inside the sun visor for any devices integrated into the sun visor, such as mirror holders or the like, and helps to save material.

Figure 3 illustrates the design variant in which the extension (10) sits inside the sun visor (11) as in Figure 2, but does not protrude slightly at the side, but is pulled out with the fingers using recesses on the outer edge of the sun visor (12).

Finally, Figure 4 illustrates the variant in which the user attaches the extension (10) as an attachment for retrofitting to the old sun visor. As an example, the above-mentioned holding strip (11) running vertically over the extension for attaching city maps, parking discs, etc. is shown here.

The invention is suitable for use in automobile construction and is therefore of a commercial nature.

Extendable sun visor for motor vehicles, characterized in that a sliding attachment is mounted on the sun visor, which can be adjusted to the desired length by hand against light shining in from the side after the sun visor is released from its locking mechanism and swung out to the side. 2. Extendable sun visor for motor vehicles according to protection claim 1, characterized in that there is a guide channel on the upper and/or lower edge of the extension, which in conjunction with a stopper attached to the upper and/or lower edge of the sun visor ensures that the extension cannot easily leave the sun visor. 3. Extendable sun visor for motor vehicles according to protection claim 1, characterized in that the extension has recesses which prevent the impairment of additional functions integrated into the sun visor, such as mirrors, lights or the like. 4. Extendable sun visor for motor vehicles according to protection claim 1, characterized in that a vertically running holding strip for attaching city maps, parking discs or the like is attached to the extension. 5. Extendable sun visor for motor vehicles according to protection claims 1, 2, 3 and 4, characterized in that it is merely an extension for retrofitting old sun visors. 6. Extendable sun visor for motor vehicles, characterized in that the extension is located inside the sun visor and protrudes slightly at the outer edge so that it can be adjusted to the desired length by hand with the fingers. 7. Extendable sun visor for motor vehicles according to protection claim 6, characterized in that the extension does not protrude at the outer edge, but can be pulled out with the fingers using a recess on the outer edge of the sun visor. 8. Extendable sun visor for motor vehicles according to protection claims 6 and 7, characterized in that the extension has recesses in the interior of the sun visor, which create space for additional functions integrated into the sun visor, such as mirror holders or the like, or contribute to saving material. 9. Extendable sun visor for motor vehicles according to protection claims 6 and 7, characterized in that stoppers are located on the upper and lower edges of the extension, which prevent the extension from being accidentally separated from the sun visor.
