Vorzugsweise hat die Mechanik einen verhältnismäßig großen di-ngdurchmeaser und eine Ringstärke von 6,5 mm. Die Urkunden werden entsprechend gelocht, haben also lochdurchmesser von ca. 7 mm. Die starken Ringe und die weiten Locher verhindern einen schnellen Verschleiß des Papiers an den Lochstellen. Die in diesem Ringbuch abgelegten Urkunden können dank der Ringmechanik wie bei einem Buch umgeschlagen werden.
